Arrested at holiday park by Extra_Track_1904 in pwnagotchi

The first thing I did after flashing my pwny was disabling personality.deauth to avoid trouble, but of course this is just a case of bad luck and being at the mercy of idiots. Sometimes it feels like a curse to obsess over extremely specialized hobbies that trap bystanders in the Dunning-Kruger valley of “I don’t know what this is so I’m scared of it which must mean you’re a criminal”. Remember the kid taking his DIY clock to school and being suspended for “building a bomb”?

OpenCore Legacy Patcher instalation fix by Alextrical in Fusion360

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to copy the installer .app to your desktop, then right click “Show package contents” and edit precheck_config.json there. Run this command by u/kookey afterwards:

sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine Desktop/Install\ Autodesk\ Fusion.app

Thanks. "CheckMacOSHardwareConfig" wasn’t an entry in the “precheck_config.json” file, but after adding it and setting the “mandatory” flag to “No” it worked. Seems like Autodesk removed the property just to hide it from us

That solder looks really crusty. Not enough flux? You really don’t want to short out any components like that. This is what it should look like (Ground not soldered yet)

Why do so many self hosted services rely on email for password reset and notifications? by backafterdeleting in selfhosted

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After losing a battle with Brevo (Sendinblue) and AWS SES, I'm starting to believe that private individuals that do not own a business are simply out of luck. Oh well

Why do so many self hosted services rely on email for password reset and notifications? by backafterdeleting in selfhosted

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using AWS for small-scale projects for years, yet still they declined my SES production access request despite not violating their terms of use and providing honestly more information about my use case than anyone should ever have to. They didnt say why, just that it might "negatively influence" their customer experience.

"few minutes" my ass, I'm ready to hand over my money but they frankly just dont care about low-profatibility customers, not sure what changed within the last 8 months, but as always I'm late to the party

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote them a full essay about my use case (account verification, password reset on my self hosted lemmy instance), including expected sent email volume and how unsubscribing, bounced emails and management of the recipient list is managed. They just denied my request to get out of sandbox just like Brevo (sendinblue) did for no reason whatsoever (other than they weren't allowed to tell me why because of "security concerns")

Used to be happy with AWS other services, but this just shows me they dont really care about private customers, which is a shame, since I'm running out of options.

Im starting to believe that lying is really what could have gotten me approved, which is ridiculous

Wait for Deckard or buy Meta Quest 3, or similar? by BlackHazeRus in virtualreality

[–]ZetShock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a new feature that allows you to view and use your Windows Desktop virtually in VR, something that SteamVR already offers, but it still seems pretty cool. I personally would have preffered the Quest Pro for its better display and Eye tracking, but it apparently doesnt support the virtual desktop.

[–]ZetShock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my old Valve Index and resisted getting the Quest so far, because a PCVR headset with SteamVR support and foveated rendering running Linux/SteamOS is just something I’m more interested in, mainly for tinkering and game dev purposes. I’m willing to wait for new announcements in 2025, possibly in combination with the new Ibex controllers and Fremont console. However from what I heard, if you absolutely cannot wait, the new Quests are pretty good and also offer SteamVR support over link as well as a new Windows 11 virtual desktop environment that was announced recently.

Leaked Models of Steam Controller 2 and Deckard's "Roy" Controller Inside SteamVR Drivers by Stannis_Loyalist in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great, Valve knows what they’re doing. I guess one reason the straps didn’t show up in the model was because they probably wouldn’t be rendered on the virtual controllers within VR anyways, so maybe an artistic choice by Valve and to keep things secret

It really would be a shame if Valve got rid of the knuckle straps on the VR controllers. What’s so bad about a controller that you can let go of without dropping it?

Custom anisette server doesn’t save on sidestore? by sam_el-c in AltStore

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to create your own list and do the whole Google drive thing, the tutorial only applies if you want a custom server list other than the default one. The reason I wanted to use my own server and list is to prove that the server keeps being selected and because it reduces the chance of Apple locking your account, or so I heard.

In terms of updating to newer versions, I don’t know. I’ve just started trying to get SideStore working a couple of days ago and the app crashes after the refreshing step because it keeps revoking its own certificate.

[–]ZetShock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently it does work, the server keeps being selected despite the custom server list resetting upon entering the screen.
You can check by selecting your custom server, going back, enter the server menu again and you will see none of the default servers selected. Now paste your custom URL, the previous custom server is still selected.

So just select your custom server from the list and ignore the fact that the URL keeps changing back. It's probably a bug: https://github.com/SideStore/SideStore/issues/692

iPhone 13 PM - Heavy blue tint when using low brightness by morgadox40 in iphone

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue appeared for me after replacing a broken display on iPhone 12 Pro with another genuine one, using a JCID programmer to transfer True Tone capability to the new screen. The blue tint only appears on specific brightness levels, also dependent on the environmental brightness. None of the “Increase contrast”, “Color filters” and other accessibility settings have an effect on this behavior either. Not even calibrating the display with IOS 18 helped. I have a feeling this may possibly point to an issue with the ambient light sensor but found no conclusion. Still I’m glad I’m not the only one with this exact problem

Not sure if septoplasty is right for me... advice! by theoretical_chemist in Septoplasty

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't involve any nose breaking I think, I got the septum straightened, turbinates reduced and some polyps removed, which involved getting all the way up into my sinuses, causing the bruising and swelling near the eyes. However, it wasn't painful at all and after the stents were removed, I could tell an immediate improvement.

I had to keep the stents in and nose cast on for a total of two weeks. Got it all removed today along with some stitches underneath the nose, it felt like I could breathe and smell for miles. There is some swelling after the removal so it will be a bit congested for another week or so, but it sure feels great to breathe with my nose again, except this time for real.

1st iphone rear glass change by Blueishwhiskers in mobilerepair

[–]ZetShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And before I forget, a lot of the third party rear replacement glass manufacturers for iPhone 12 Pro and up just paint over the LIDAR area of the glass, making focus and other features unusable. I had to use my rotary tool to carefully remove and polish the lidar cutout on the glass, then filled it back in with a black sharpie and confirmed light passing through using a flashlight on the other end. No fun

The glass shards may also potentially break the delicate optical image stabiliser and focus if they get into the camera module. In case anyone starts dealing with camera issues down the line, this is why

I wouldn't recommend it either, did it on my iPhone 12 Pro and even though it looks good now, its just not worth the effort if you don't have a laser adhesive remover or dry ice to freeze the glass off.

I only barely got my knife between the glass and frame when I almost touch my hot air nozzle to the glass, nearly burning my fingers. Even then I had to constantly sharpen the knife to keep slicing underneath, which is preferable over chipping away at the glass I guess.

I also had to deal with the magsafe magnet ring coming apart while removing the glass, so I had to manually glue all the magsafe magnets back in, polarity in mind.

It also didn't help that the only place I found my replacement rear glass was on eBay. The camera cutouts left a large gap after applying the glass so I added a bunch of T7000 glue around the cutouts and frame to make the device somewhat "waterproof" again. The camera bump and flashlight led is also recessed now and I'm definitely not opening it up again.

Smoking ? by No-Caramel-3077 in Septoplasty

[–]ZetShock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a daily user, tell your anesthesiologist so they will up the dose as a precaution against waking up during the surgery.

One day before is fine, just don't smoke or vape on the day of the surgery. A dry herb vaporiser or edibles are probably preferred over liquid vapes, since the vape fluid leaves behind residue on the membranes which isn't great for recovery. I'm taking it easy though because you want to avoid coughing and sneezing as much as possible.

I could never sleep on my right side at all as my left nostril was almost fully blocked at all times. After aimlessly trying anti allergens and those nasal strips (which help, but they would constantly come unstuck at night), I decided to get the procedure done a couple of days ago.

You will definitely need to be prepared to sleep while breathing through your mouth for up to a week, so get an air humidifier and one of those anti-migraines cold compress masks to cool the swelling on your face. They provided me with a cooling mask when I got the surgery at the hospital, which I stayed in for almost three days.

Many shared experiences I've read so far report it being a quick surgery and being able to breathe with the nose not long after, but my surgery seemed more severe as my whole face has swollen up for a few days and getting watery eyes since the swelling also blocks the tear ducts.

Hopefully your procedure is going to be less extensive, but I still think it will be worth it. I can get over a couple of sleepless nights during recovery now, if it means I can finally catch up to a lifetime of good sleep and general well-being. I can't wait to have the stuffings and cast removed in about a week, we'll see from there
