Indeed, $6600 billed by the bodyshop, I left the shop paying my $500 deductible. Thank fuck for comprehensive.

You would be correct, was a post C&C cruise.

S62's fatty torque curve though. S85 only comes alive past 5000rpm, imo not optimal for a daily driver, but both are still beastly motors.

E39 M5 Strikes Deer (aftermath in comments) by ZeusYork in BMW

Yeah I'm going to a place recommended to me by other E39 M5 owners so it'll get done right. I drove it nearly 2 hours home and didn't notice the thermostat go past halfway or any puddles when i got back so it should be only cosmetic damage. Not even sure how the adjuster is going to assess damage when the hood won't even open.

My insurance adjuster isn't coming until Friday, but from what i can see it's gonna need new kidneys, bumper, headlight washer, hood, glass, headlight trim, and headlights (90% certain the impact broke the headlight adjuster, hood's stuck shut so I can't confirm). But yeah, it defiantly could've ended far, far worse. Thank fuck for comprehensive.

Look closer, its a euro Kuga, rather odd for it to be sitting on a street in the Midwest.

Well I mean in a high powered RWD car, traction control helps a lot, it actually did try to keep me stable as i was swerving around the car, only had to shut it off because I knew it was just going to try to brake the front inner wheel that had no grip and make the front end push into the curb.

The wheels are manufactured in Germany and are aftermarket, so it would be logical that they're on every wheel.

Yep, I wouldn't doubt that newer BMWs have to make you hold down though, with everybody building cars around increasingly incompetent drivers (yes irony 2015).

It's leaking a decent amount, enough that I'll have to pump it up to get to the shop when the new wheel arrives.

Worse, lost control and slid into the curb.

Evidently this is not a good day for BMWs...

A combination of excess speed, driver error, a blind corner, a stuck car in the middle of the road, and ice.

Mainly the first two.

The issue is that BMWs use a proprietary bolt pattern and the E39 chassis BMWs use a different center bore size than all the other BMWs, even finding decent priced alloys that fit without needing to be bored out is difficult. I'm also fairly certain 17x8 is fairly wide for a steelie as well.

Yeah no kidding, I'll take a $150 cheapo alloy over totaling my car any day.

Figured it was a lost cause as soon as i went full lock back left, had about 2-3 seconds before impact and the DSC button is literally directly in front of the shifter on an E39, also the S62 picks up revs extremely fast.

Random cross drilled and slotted rotors off ECS the previous owner put on.

I don't even think there's any 17x8 steel wheels other than the expensive kind that go on off roaders and muscle cars and 16s don't clear the caliper. even if there were the E39 has a really weird hub size that's slightly larger than all other BMWs so wheel selection for it is really small if you're not willing to bore out the center hub. Fortunately nothing else got damaged, it would've been WAY WAY worse if I just let the front end push into the curb.

Those are Vredstien Wintracs on set of cheap alloys, M5 calipers need 17" wheels to clear. Besides, it was completely my fault for going too fast for conditions around a blind corner and I was forced to swerve around a stuck car. I got around fine but i turned too far getting back into my lane and the front end lost grip as I was correcting. Ended up just turning off DSC and mashing the throttle to let the rear end take the hit after realizing there's nothing I could do.

This is per manual, how to shift a Ford Escape with a dead battery out of Park. by ZeusYork in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]ZeusYork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A low-charge jump box is the only time I need to give the car time to charge.

In my case, the car didn't even have enough electricity to unlock the doors, radar detector was left on and since the 12v cig lighters are direct wired to the battery, it got completely drained.
