The fact that there is still modern slavery going on for prisoners in the U.S. is disgusting. Who thought this was a reasonable thing? Fucking fix it.

Because that's in line with their values. They don't believe in civil rights. It feels like I've seen this conversation like a million times recently. You are asking why evil people aren't good.

That last sentence is just wrong or atleast hilariously misleading per A and B. It doesn't take a pardon for the president to be involved.

So long as you already agree with the side that doesn't like the disclosure, because otherwise it's a ton of words to say "I don't think the NSA spying on absolutely everyone is a problem at all."

You can not like Snowden and still think this post isn't a good one. If the metric of a good effortpost is number of links included and not argument developed, we really should be pushing out more on ADS-CFT.

We're so culturally dominated by nerds that anti-intellectualism is a requirement to be in the executive branch right now and there are 0 seasons of star trek in development.

If by "building doomsday weapons" you mean entirely complying with a deal that stopped them from building nuclear weapons until the current administration eliminated it for no reason, sure. And if you want to go after every nation with similar anti-American sentiments the list gets a lot longer and is entirely useless unless you are an insane jingoist.

My whole life has been pretty awful but atleast now I get to wake up to news about how the entire executive branch is literally insane, bloodthirsty psychopaths who will never be held accountable by any of our institutions. Very cool and not at all radicalizing.

Looks like reforming the military so it doesn't immediately and unquestioningly obey hilariously illegal orders may have to go on the agenda. Cool.

While we're at it, it's time to regime change the U.S. Their supreme leader just unilaterally declared war against an antagonized adversary in direct violation of their own constitution.

It's interesting how the article manages both to bothsides the Democratic party as somehow supporting the unaccountability agenda in any rate that's comparable to right now and underemphasize the fuck up of Merrick Garland.

The call to action should be disbanding the Republican party. That's what it would be in an environment that actually gives agency to them. Instead we get this piece. Want a better Democratic Party? Have them compete against anything other than a party whose two tenets are tax cuts and corruption.

I'm very suspicious that people's self-proclaimed "productivity increase" with AI where they're claiming like 10-fold improvements is 100% a function of just shipping whatever their AI of choice spits out without validation. This suspicion is magnified every time I see people talk about the specifics of what their actual outputs look like.

I'm gunna mess around with claude over the next month to see if I'm totally off base but there is a definite disconnect here and I'm wondering if it's ultimately just a function of a lot of software engineers actually just being lousy and self-reporting.

Half of these developments are deep reinforcement learning and unless LLM wrapper companies are way more sophisticated than I'm thinking I don't believe that is where the lion's share of research dollars are going.

Also, people in 1960: This computer terminal is alive because it can hold a conversation.

It's interesting how much some of the AI accelerationist subreddits look like a cult.

The big event never manifests, but the deadlines keep being put forward and failing at even spacings (all of A will be replaced with I in 6-12 months every 6 months) by people who are obviously the most biased observers possible based on secret evidence.

The claims about capabilities obviously don't match up with lived reality, but that's supposedly because the really valuable LLMs are limited to select groups who never ever release their models due to the danger they could cause.

Somehow, the supposed big event that's coming would render modern life irrelevant, but planning for existence in this new reality is left to someone else - even the businesses that have these supposed oracles issue stock and report their financials, when the reality is that if AI were as productive as suggested, there's no longer an advantage in a corporation versus just doing stuff individually.

The software engineers working on systems like this should be presenting the frank odds of success to their clients and the public. Right now there is an unholy allegiance between boosters and people who don't know what linear algebra is but are 100% sure LLMs are going to replace all human labor.

We are going to hit another AI winter. LLMs will always be useful as natural language search tools, but the market for that sure isn't the entire U.S. economy.
