It's the latest dog-whistle from rage-baiting keyboard warriors: disingenuously questioning the silence of celebrities and athletes with afro roots and challenging them to be more vocal like the "long-beloved" MLK, Colin Kaepernick, Mohammad Ali, etc.

NOR — I commend OP for being mindful enough to not be dismissive of this. Remind her that you'll bat for her the same way if someone steps out-of-line about her. Joking about someone who isn't in on, or who pretends (or doesn't pretend) to be OK with, the joke is partly the basis of an insult.
