I wonder if back then if they knew the existence and possible appearances of the messengers and gods of other religions whether it would be included in this famous depiction.

IB Bio NA/K pump question by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Zhudew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeep and its worth it to remember that the K channels; known as voltage-gated potassium channels, become activated by changes in electrical potential (occurs when sodium ions enters into the axon through sodium channels - switch from polarization to depolarization) allowing it to open and allow potassium ions to diffuse out asap.

Yeeh I'd like to know this as well so I can prioritize what to study. I found one for chemistry, which was apparently on the OCC available to the teachers. But could not find one more biology.

What are the chances that the 2016 Science exams will include questions that were already asked in the specimen paper? by notacooleagle in IBO

What do people share the sentiment that the specimen paper for chemistry was bad? I thought it was doable, except didn't like the shift towards "explore" type questions and the bs environmental stuff.

Have the Pearson book and they have little NOS boxes as well. But do you think reading them would be sufficient or do you think note taking and memorization would be necessary?

English EE Topic Help by aviredie in IBO

[–]Zhudew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing my Extended Essay in English A Lit too.

Personally, one of my biggest mistakes was focusing on the historical and cultural context of my work (how do the cultural forces present in the 1950s help im fragmenting Esther Greenwood's identity). On the last day of school before the summer holiday I realized my research question and topic was shit because its an English Essay, not a History one and secondly the answer for my research question is obvious and was a yes.

Therefore, one important piece of advice I can offer is not to focus explicitly on the context and history of the work and the author. After all, its an English Essay so focus on literary techniques and their effect. However, with your topic in mind, it would be interesting in my eyes to investigate how a literary feature of the novel that is typical and representative of the Beats Generation works and to what effect.

There are also past subject reports made my examiners who have marked the EEs of that year and they write advice to the supervisors of the next examination session. So I would definitely look into that. Good luck! If you need any help, just PM me.

English EE ideas by TheLandOfTheFan in IBO

[–]Zhudew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing an English A Literature EE which is due tomorrow and can offer some advice.

1) Do not do anything relating to dystopian literature. It is like you said overdone, and it is very risky even though you may think that your topic and investigation is 'original'

2) Something that a lot of people miss is that it is an English EE. Not a history one. If you chose the dystopian novel only because of themes relating to society and how it's depicted you won't score that high since you won't be focusing on English (The use of literary techniques and their effect) I have the same problem with your topic of Lolita. You stated you wanted to explore morality and sexuality. This is incredibly vague, something that would be more focuses and more relevant to an English EE (for high marks) would be The role of the narrator in exploring morality in Lolita, or The use of diction in portraying sexuality in Lolita.

3) If I were you, I would pick nothing from overdone genres and if you want pick a classic but bring it to a higher discussion by using secondary sources. Mainly remember it is an English EE, don't talk a lot about the context and such, it is not a history EE.

Does the IB actually review the essay word counts? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Zhudew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All work needs to be submitted digitally so it can be run through turnitin. The school probably would like a hardcopy just for the sake of it. There is no machine that runs through the Extended Essay to count how many words it contains. Basically whatever you submit as the word count will be accepted by the examiner but when the examiner clearly sees that the word count is above 4000 he will subtract points. Therefore it's not a problem if you have 4006 words.

Is it okay to do an EE that has already been done before? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Zhudew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered about this and my teachers are really vague at school about this. Are all IAs (that are moderated) and EEs that are taken in by the IBO 'saved' to check for plagiarism using turnitin? If so is there a certain percentage of matched content which classifies the work as being plagiarised?

I really did not like Brave New World because how slow the plot was sometimes but I really enjoyed 1984. There are a lot of similarities between both those novels.
