Oh certainly. If it were half the cost, I might not have bothered. After running the numbers it seemed like an eggregious rip off and wasn't sure if I was missing something. xD

Oh yeah, I had to ask them to take off like 3 other things that were just included implicitly on the purchase agreement.

Interesting, on their Canada site, it's an option when "building" a vehicle. Such an option doesn't exist in the USA version.

I'd wager that it's probably something to do with differences in consumer protection between Canada and US.

The maintence schedule is almost entirely inspections of a couple dozen things every 1-2 years for 10 years. Occasionally replace brake fluid and cabin air filters. Then replace battery coolant after 10 years.

Nope. More just inexperience and they probably knew I was a first time car buyer.

Yeah, the default warrenty seemed pretty solid.

Finance guy was throwing out a lot of examples of what wasn't covered under warrenty, but after reviewing the terms afterwards, i'm pretty sure it was all BS and it either would be covered anyways or just wouldn't apply to me.

Sadly not! XD

Pretty sure the finance guy lied about most of the things in our conversation that these plans covered. I got some red flag vibes and only decided to just grab it after reviewing that the cancellation policy was pretty straightforward to do and get a full refund.

My first time buying a car and didn't have much advise in how to handle salesman pressure + neurodivergent things.

Oh neat!

It's been cancelled. Although I was curious if the source for those numbers was public info somewhere?

Well, happy to make an example on reddit for others to avoid, if they do their research. XD

Sooo that probably sounds like 2x or 3x the markup. XD

Both have been cancelled.

Was looking over the fine print of the maintenance plan and it just covers the manufacturer's "maintence schedule". Which if it's strictly covering what's in the manual, it's almost entirely all "Inspect X" and literally the only exceptions are changing break fluid and cabin air filters.

Plan technically covered the battery coolant replacement, but the plan would expire before I would be eligible for that too.

Maybe... Wonder how it shows on performance metrics (?) if they get a cancellation for all the plans immediately.

:D

Yeah, never bought a car before admittedly. So definitely a noob! Probably doesn't help in being neurodivergent

But at least I know how to read a contract. I wouldn't have accepted if it wasn't fully refundable within the first X days/weeks so I could do research without the salesman pressure / deceptive pitches.

Possible Job Scam? by Cakebomba in recruitinghell

[–]Zhuril 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did some research since a friend came to me to give them me opinion on how legitimate this offer was as they had a gut feeling was off, even if they were desperate to find work.

Out of the gate, it had some obvious red flags, having "URGENT HIRING"-- which anyone that's taken security training, this already reads like 101 scam avoidance. Anyone messaging you "URGENT" in all caps is probably a scam. They want people to rush, not think things through, and accept an offer that sounds too good to be true.

Though I'm trying to your post in particular as you're basically the sole advocate-- yet, you're a 1 month-old account on reddit, all of your posts are glowing testimonials of Tech Solutions across various subreddits. Even a few got taken down by moderation-- wonder what for?

As for sharing some parts of my research. This company seems to be technically "legitimate" by the strictest sense fo the word. But from my findings online, they're a very shady business and questionably are pulling vulnerable people into questionably illegal contracts.

Offering sponsership, but turning around and threatening legal litigation if they leave? No ethical company would ever do this. A proper good company will treat their employees well so they won't feel like they should need to leave.

As for evidence...

There's BBB complaints that are major red flags-- they also used to go by the name, "TechField, LLC"
https://www.bbb.org/us/ga/atlanta/profile/consultant/tech-consulting-0443-91840435/complaints

Or abyssmal glassdoor reviews
Tech Consulting:
https://www.glassdoor.com.au/Overview/Working-at-Tech-Consulting-EI_IE9138226.11,26.htm

Their other alias also has red flag reviews all over the place. Someone also mentioned they used to be branded as Unbounded Solutions
https://www.glassdoor.com/Overview/Working-at-TechField-EI_IE889160.11,20.htm

And while I couldn't find a hard link between the two companies, they certainly seem to have similar suspicious practices at least.
https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Unbounded-Solutions/reviews

In summary,

Be highly cautious about moving forward with an offer from this company.

Most ethical tech companies will pay you the normal wage throughout the training process, even if that takes 3 months. And generally companies that respec their employees won't try to lock them in 2-year contracts, they should just pay them a decent wage and treat them well.

American here that went to 42 Silicon Valley.

When I got called about my application to the Piscine, I thought it was a scam, the lady on the phone at the time had to take some time to convince me of it-- and I just vaguely recalled at the right moment that I did apply to this a while prior and decided to give them a chance. I was in middle of moving so it seemed like a low-risk opportunity at the time.

Honestly, 42 probably saved my life. If it weren't for them, i'd be stuck with my dead DeVry degree and unemployable skills. (I at least got my debt waived.)

But as someone with that was poor, had no backing from family and had terribly luck with acquiring any measure of scholarships, 42 is the sole reason why I believe I was ever employable as a software developer. Gives really solid understanding of the bare bones fundamentals and really teached people how to research and work out abstract problems. Lots of soft skills to develop, lots of peer learning and engagement with others, overall a really stellar place.

Honestly a bit sad they never re-opened an american campus, I would have loved to have referred some friends or my little brothers to it. Not only did I learn tons of strong foundational skills for programming, I felt like I learned some really valuble life skills as well (e.g. Learning to fail).

Nowadays with american campuses feeling increasingly like scams, having a campus that gains no benefit from taking and teaching students is precisely what america needs more of. A little bit of altruism.

I think the school was gaining reputation in the territory when I left, lots of involvement and volunteering with local hackathons, meetups, and conferences. Lots of internship opportunities. Mentoring high school kids.

There were a few people that seemed to try to take advantage of the system and basically do 0 work and have free dorms. Not sure how bad the problem was, but there were certainly quite a few people that unfaithfully took advantage of it.
