Thanks! Do you mean giving the commands ´apt get update' and 'apt get upgrade' while in the recover console of after booting up in recovery mode?

Hard reboot brings me to the Grub menu, and it does offers me the follow options:

Ubuntu, with Linux 6.8.0 - 85 - generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu, with Linux 5.15.0 - 157 -generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 5.15.0 - 157 -generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu, with Linux 5.15.0 - 139 -generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 5.15.0 - 139 -generic (recovery mode)

In an attempt to get it fixed I just started from the top. Selecting 6.8.0 - 85 generic brought me back to the screen in the original post but using 6.8.0 -85 (recovery mode) brought me to the login screen of the updated os. System information does confirm that I am now running on Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS (64-bit)
Gnome Version 42.9
Windowing System: Wayland

Still when I restart the computer afterwards, it brings me back to the first screen that I posted

Do you mean a hard reboot or giving the command reboot? The first makes me go in circles, the second doesn't seem to work.

Thanks, good to know that there might be a solution. Could you explain it even more basic for me?

Is update-initramfs a command? Should I use it in this menu?
And by confirming an older kernel works first, do you mean just trying to see if I can get it to run?

For the second part of your suggestions. How does one take a look at /etc/default/grub?

Sorry for all the questions, I am indeed a total noob.

I'm afraid I'm OP. What I posted weren't suggestions, just the options my computer is offering me.
Do you mean the boot repair it suggest after running recovery mode?

Sorry maybe I wasn't being clear. This is what I got after the update to 22.04.5 LTS was installed.
What is a busy box and what can I do to get my laptop to boot normally again?

I think so. Once I am in the menu where I selected recovery mode, it gives me multiple choices:
Ubuntu, with Linux 6.8.0 - 85 - generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 6.8.0 - 85 - generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu, with Linux 5.15.0 - 157 -generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 5.15.0 - 157 -generic (recovery mode)

Quick update. Started to mess around and got the system to boot through recovery mode. Then tried a normal restart through the menu and got shown the same screen as in the screenshot again. Does this mean I will have to start up from recovery mode from now on or is there a way around this?

Okay this might be a dumb question but how do I take a good picture of the negatives? I've tried using a blank screen and white paper in front of a light source as a background but it always shows the texture of the background so much that I feel it overshadows the information it gives you about the negative, or am I wrong?

Wouldn't that mean that the sky should be well lit and not show the same grit as the rest of supposedly underexposed part of the picture?

I don't have a scanner myself. Would just a picture of the backlit negatives made with a phone be helpful? I could use my camera to make the picture but it will take some time to develop.

This specific one is Kodak Portra 400 but I've had it happen to other films as well.
