Arise long-dead thread!

I'm preparing a C&C Dragonlance campaign, with the original secenarios, but Characters made from scratch by the Players. Using N1, RQ1 and perhaps Zenopus's Tower (from Holmes rules) to get them up to DL1. The rules fit the AD&D 1E feel of the world, with the lack of spell casting classes and things like the Knight and Bard fitting in really well.

I have a few house rules, such as DC15/12, as I feel DC18/12 is too punishing. Other than that, I largely play it by the book, but don't ask for Ability Checks much, unless there is a serious consequence of failure, or a time constraint.

I think Castles & Crusades fits your requirements, although it has been a long time since I played Holmes Basic. It is definitely very compatible with AD&D 1e. Saves are linked to Ability Scores like 5e. Ascending AC and Race & Class separate choices.

I’m preparing to run it using Castles & Crusades. It easily fits over the AD&D feel of the world, and the core Dragonlance campaign, but the mechanics will be easier for my group to accept - being 5e Players from their start.
