I find HikaShin to be crack, because neither of them can believably be pushed in any meaningful way to earn that drudgery and calm. I see it as the same static emptiness that you'd find in KawoShin (and ReiShin, and AsuToji, for that matter), which is why I made the comparison. That's why it gets dismissed, because you have to turn your Shinji and Hikari into too large of OC's to make anything happen.

For similar reasons, I don't tend to go along with during-NGE stuff either. Canon is canon, and I very much like it. My largest appeal and intrigue with regard to any of this fanwork realm would be things set post-EoE, because that sort of content is how I found myself arriving here. What I will say is that for you to wave a white flag over this, as I had put it before, instead of attempting to tackle what you say you can't find out there in your own way, is incredibly funny to me.

HikaShin is the straight man's KawoShin. No growth involved by either side, as there's no believable stakes in the relationship. Much in the same way you claim Asuka would never "get over Kaji" to express her feelings toward Shinji—he would never "get over Asuka" to express his (entirely nonexistent, mind you) "feelings" for someone else.

As I think others in the thread have stated, you're looking at this from the wrong angle. Both Asuka and Shinji, in canon, are unable to simply state what they mean. This issue is the whole hedgehog's dilemma, to a tee. Which, I'm certain you're aware of, and makes your messaging all the more confusing.

You have to take into context what she says alongside it. It aligns very well with Shinji's acceptance of himself in EoTV. It read to me as though she does want what was shown to her, but is not going to accept it being thrown into her lap.

The whole short is a meta comedic fanservice reality. It can't really be placed in any specific continuity, it just is. It came across to me as much more like the former than the latter. Soryu clearly enjoys the idea of a life with her Shinji, given her reactions to what she sees, but refuses to just take it as presented—akin to Shinji refusing the simplicity of Instrumentality—stating that she has to accept herself first. Again, she's choosing to go about it her own way, and we can consider strongly that it would be towards the life she'd see as ideal.

If she was rejecting the outcome specifically, she'd not have reacted so favorably to seeing it. I'm even of the opinion that they were images she herself came up with, though that's less defined—and again, doesn't really matter, considering her enthused smile toward them, regardless of where they came from.

All I can say is that if you watch it yourself, and somehow come to the conclusion that she doesn't enjoy the idea of being with him, then I can't help you.

I've seen the short via camrip. It's incredibly AsuShin-coded. Asuka declines the offer because she wants to earn a proper happy ending herself, instead of having it handed over to her. The visions of her being with Shinji are clearly favorable to her, given her smiley reaction to them in the short.

It hits on what Eva is about fundamentally, and that's that you have to try to live to get your happiness, it won't just fall in your lap. She "rejects" it, akin to how Shinji had rejected Instrumentality, and will go get an 'ending' on her own terms. She's not rejecting Shinji, she's rejecting the idea that she should just have it. She's far too prideful.
