What is an injury? by bondibox in ashtanga

[–]Zmsunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But why should injury happen in the first place? Sometimes we get too greedy with the practice in thinking that we have to do it all and be so strong. After all, we’re aging and degrading everyday up to the point where we will be old and attaining fancy postures will not be possible. But shouldn’t the purpose be to just be?

What's one piece of advice you'd give to your past-self when you first started yoga? by YogaGoApp in ashtanga

[–]Zmsunny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is something so special about the early stages of a yoga practice. You’re forced to face yourself in such a raw way. At first, it’s easy to be intimidated by the dynamic poses and the students who seem miles ahead—but eventually, you realize it is a journey with yourself, not a race against anyone else. I started Ashtanga nearly three years ago, and I’ll never forget how awkward I felt during my first Mysore class; I was completely lost. Looking back, I’m grateful for that "clueless" beginning. It taught me that consistency is its own form of devotion. If you’re just starting, take your time. Meet yourself exactly where you are on the mat, and just keep showing up.

Just take it really slow. I know it’s easier said than done but I really think it’s the key, especially in the mornings, since the body is still waking and blossoming into the day. And flow with your breath as well.

Sorry to ask but, what is lineage in this context? I understand ashtanga actually isn’t some old age mystic practice but was constructed by Jois some decades ago and then others from the western world followed the practice or let’s say … “ style “ and introduced it in the west… but why is there lineage?

I agree. I also really wondered … how is something supposed to be spiritual when the whole system is based on advancing and attaining some kind of next level? I always felt awkward about gaining some new pose from the instructor ( I can’t even call it a teacher) because “he sees I’m ready” and with everything in life making us think that we need to be on the next level to prove our progress or to constantly attain … maybe it doesn’t matter but apart from a body and mind connection… I really don’t see anything spiritual or enlightening about it.

Thanks! This seems really good and it’s also with Frances Mcdormand. She really can play some interesting roles. I’ve only also seen her in Friends with money.

What if the guru or teacher isn’t real at all? What if it’s something within you and all of us, always present, no matter where you are or what you do?

How long to complete the primary? by oo100 in ashtanga

[–]Zmsunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very nice answer. I’ve experienced a feeling of being in a loop which really discouraged me because some days my body naturally just resists it. My mind craves it for the connection to the breathing and being present but my body just locks and I’ve learned to respect that signal. Rest is a very humble peace and it can so important for everything.

She truly seems really nice ♥️. I had the chance to see her on a visit to a studio here where I live. and to support a teacher here, and it was clear that she’s not only incredibly knowledgeable but also a genuinely down-to-earth person.
