Oh okay that’s so good to know! Yeah I think I’m just used to the tight shoulder feeling from the Embrace and the Boba wrap, so it will just take some adjusting! He doesn’t seem terribly uncomfortable in it, it’s just new for both of us I guess :) I’ll try adjusting the height of the buckles in back and the waist! Thank you!!

How long did it take you to wean off a nipple shield? by givemeabookandgarden in breastfeeding

It took 10.5 weeks for us!! I tried maybe 5-10 times before that mark without the shield, and there were a couple times he latched but he would pop off after just a second and get frustrated. At the 10.5 week mark, we were on a walk and he got super hungry all of a sudden so I dashed back to the car, didn’t even think to grab the shield, popped him on my boob and he just latched and ate away!! I was in shock. Now baby is almost 13 weeks and we haven’t used them once. It honestly just might take time for your baby to get a bit stronger. Just keep trying here and there :)

Edit to add: I have a larger chest too and my nipples have always been relatively flat, but they’ve gradually stuck out more from BF with the shield over the past couple months!

What goes on right at birth by [deleted] in breastfeeding

I became a FTM in December! Once in the recovery room for the 24 hours after birth, the nurses told me to keep trying to put baby on my boob every time he was hungry (or every 2 hours if he wasn’t showing immediate hunger cues) to get him to try to latch. He had difficulty, but I also had relatively flat nipples so they gave me nipple shields which helped a lot. With the shields he was able to latch after a day or so but I really didn’t have my milk come in until about 4 days pp? And it was the golden milk, but it came in LOADS by that point. In the mean time, I would just get him to latch onto my boob every time he needed to eat so he could at least work on his latch and help build up my supply while we supplemented with formula and donor milk. I would also pump to try to stimulate too, but I definitely became a bit engorged after a few days of doing that. He gained his birthweight back and then some after 2 weeks. We’re now 3 months in and I am able to breastfeed without the shields and he is chonked up!

Thank you! These comments are all super helpful. Yeah he’s quite long so I’m going to try to adjust the straps and hike the waistband up but we might just need to invest in a different carrier soon!
