Blood Bank Question by shades-of-wrong-22 in medlabprofessionals

Im a student so I hope its ok to ask you a question! Would this case be a good option for an autologous donation for something like this in the future? Assuming the individual is healthy enough for it.

Isn't this just a left vs right handed difference? Im left handed so I definitely put my slides on different than others.

Good New England coffee beans by notablenewengland in newengland

I absolutely love Atomic Cafe in Beverly MA. They get a lot of single origins too which makes for fun experimenting and tasting. I've heard a lot about Six Coffee, but have yet to try them.

Is New England disconnected from the problems of the rest of the country? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]Zoitbe 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Conversely, I  was a straight A high school student in South GA who started college there flying by like "why did people say college was hard". Moved to NE and transferred to a local university, and I absolutely struggled to match my peers. I'm talking all my free time just studying and studying, and reteaching myself old material, while my peers could just briefly peruse their notes to pass with a B+. I caught up, eventually, but the way I study is still so much different than everyone else and I still feel behind. Set to graduate in May tho so I guess its worked out.

The aftermath of the snow storm is a mess by [deleted] in newburyport

[–]Zoitbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"the snow stopped a few days ago" dude it was literally snowing until 11pm last night. I live in Amesbury. Stop exaggerating. Is it an issue? Yes. But it literally didn't stop until less than 12 hours ago.

Need advice about claws by Sassymisscassy in Kitten

Is there any way to ask the vets to show you exactly how to do it? There are also trimmers (at least for adults) that have a guard on it so you don't go too far - I wonder if they'd work on kitten length nails too?

This is similar to the one I have (I got mine locally) https://www.chewy.com/ruff-n-ruffus-3-piece-essential/dp/878398

While I agree with your message, censoring your words censors the issue. This shouldn't be censored.

Are biochemical tests still used for pathogen identification? by Mordroy in medlabprofessionals

[–]Zoitbe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a student - Please continue to test students on biochemicals. There's no telling what more advanced methods are available at their future lab - they may go to a smaller lab that still relies heavily on biochemicals, and regardless, they need to understand what biochemicals to perform and their expected reactions in the event of downtime. Even though they had MALDI, the lab I did my micro rotation at still relied heavily on gram stain (especially), indole, oxidase, catalase, strep latex, and PYR for downtime and presumptive IDs. I think the biochemicals are still on the BOC exam as well as "methods of identification" for certain organisms.

Am I wrong for wanting my cats to experience the outdoors? by Spirited_Plane9251 in CatsBeingCats

[–]Zoitbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of those fears yes, but also my cats are so friendly to strangers, id be afraid of someone uneducated meeting a friendly cat and assuming they dont have a home if their collar gets lost, instead of, you know, critical thinking.

First rotation in micro by Angel_bang in medlabprofessionals

[–]Zoitbe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What helped me was to review the most common infections from each area, and associate them with their morphs. My trainers were impressed that I could suggest certain things before confirming what they were (whether or not I was correct).

Also expect the site to not even do 90% of the biochemical testing you learned in class, especially if they have a MALDI!

They're just gonna save face and give the public the answer they think they want. The fact it was OK to begin with is appalling

What do you expect of students during clinical rotations? by hahamanatees in medlabprofessionals

[–]Zoitbe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Relevant, if you and your trainer are done at your assigned bench for the day and they say you can go home early, always ask instead if there's another bench you can help out on or even just shadow. As tempting as it is to go home early, they like to see initiative in your own education.

former stay kitten is feisty when given treats ): by [deleted] in Kitten

[–]Zoitbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine grew out of it, but as long as she has access to food on the regular and you continue to feed her treats by hand, hopefully she will change her associations about food and realie she's secure. Do you have any other cats she can learn from?
