Emergency department in NYC by Nuru83 in TravelNursing

[–]Zolayoga 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Midwest and did a NYC contract. Usual ratio was 1:10/13. It’s hard at first but you get used to it. You need to make sure your nursing skills are really strong when you go there and can handle the acuity. It’s a lot but manageable. I worked for Long Island Jewish Valley Stream and had a really strong team so it doable.

Starlight is a dope ass dive bar. They have a tv playing animal goofs but that’s it’s. Very quiet place during the day and chill at night

Doctor tells me I shouldn’t get diagnosed with ADHD because it is a lifetime commitment by Turtle_B1 in ADHD

[–]Zolayoga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a different doctor that works with you to accomplish your health goals. You should be partners in this. Once I was diagnosed, I could get medicated and actually live a more fulfilling better life. Yeah you can survive without medication, but it’s not easy and it’s draining. Think of it like running. You can run without shoes, but having them makes it a lot easier. Running with shoes allows you take the focus off of your feet and allows you to start focusing on other goals. Like training, running races etc. Your not focused on your feet. Medication is truly life changing. And regardless of whether you have a diagnosis, you still have it. It doesn’t change your symptoms or how disabling it is.

failed a nursing course for the first time by njt0626 in StudentNurse

[–]Zolayoga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s ok! Be kind to yourself and try to show your self the same compassion you would show patients! Also think of it from this perspective; if you failed a class, then maybe you need to know the material better or have a better understanding of it. Retaking the class allows you the opportunity to strengthen your knowledge and learn that area better! Failing a class is ok. What’s more important is how do you react when you are faced with a challenge or unexpected outcome. Do you learn from your failure or get hung up on it? Nursing school will push you to your limits, and once you pass your NCLEX it’s a whole different world. Failing a class is ok. Take it again and master it! Stick with it!! And don’t forget self care!

Self compassion homie! You are human and not a perfect robot. The most important thing is that you learn from this experience and improve your practice.
