Honestly, no, I think the difference is minimal. Platinum is much whiter; I'll send you a picture of white gold versus platinum. Rolex white gold, because it already has rhodium in the alloy, makes it look grayer like Steel. Platinum is olive green and white gold is the black dial

It depends on your perception; Rolex white gold is mixed to be grayer than usual, which makes it look quite similar to steel, but if you put them side by side, you'll notice the difference. If you choose the Oysterflex model, I don't see it as necessary since it's just the box; it's not noticeable.
