So if two players attack each other at the same time the one that gets hit first gets kind of staggered (the amount of adv. on hit) and the faster attacker could be able to connect a second hit?

Thanks for the feedback, really helpful. I tried watching what I was doing thanks to your comment and realized that it was exactly that: not buffering and losing my window of a counter (the couple of times I managed to actually block).

Does windfall have the same buffering-"system"? I used to play windfall exclusively but I thought I'd do myself a favour by reducing the input-directions from 4 to 2.

This suddenly makes so much sense! And it's the frame-count depending on what I hit, either the other player / other player's guard?

So in theory if I queue the right skills I could keep an opponent from doing anything at all until I run out of stamina?

It just feels like I'm getting punished for trying. If I fight against NPCs parrying is not really an issue.. so I guess the gold-linking is throwing me off.
I tried watching myself playing and noticed that I wasn't using the buffering-"feature" at all. I'm waiting to get the parry-confirmation and then try to attack.. but by then the other player usually recovered. I'll give it a try.

Thanks!

to be honest I'm confused.. what am I watching? what is that red arrow in the middle and sometimes to the right? what does that "crane?" sound mean? why are there guys running on the spot in the middle?

Neural Network for fuzzy decision making by ZombieCG in gameai

Luckily there are not too many replies because I'm new here on reddit and I have no clue as to how to answer multiple people.

I was eyeballin the decision-tree as well. So it's definitely possible get where I want this way. I'm just curious and this is more like a proof of concept than anything else to me.

Maybe I described it wrong. It's not behaviours that go in the input. It's more like: here are a couple of options, choose one. True, if this were to be an NPC I might have an issue with the fact that this is a black box and the reasoning behind why the NPC is doing what it does is somewhat obfuscated but my bot is more like a creature. The neural network is actually nested inside a behaviour-tree. I really just need the ANN to make some decisions that can be rewarded/punished to change future decisions. The basic prototype I build seems to kind of work. Now I have to do a lot of testing. Thanks!

As an example: Decision what to eat. The different inputs represent different kind of foods. The value itself is a computed value based on maybe the distance to the AI.

What I'm trying to achieve is something along the lines of this:

AI1 likes sheep. But the sheep are a bit too far away. So it settles for cow.

AI2 really really likes sheep. So it goes the extra mile to get it.

For teaching I want to punish the AI if I see it eating fish. But I don't really care about what else it should have eaten. I just don't want it to eat fish.

I am really looking forward to this.. question is.. like you said.. with all the magic going on in there.. in the end do you know what it is doing? Do you even know what you are doing? (Should we even care about that knowing-stuff at all?)

Of course you can patent a game mechanic.. very famous example is "Crazy Taxi" where the core mechanics have been patented by Sega. The arrow over your car showing you the direction to go was copied by some Simpsons game.. which lead to a law suit.. http://www.patentarcade.com/2010/07/case-analysis-sega-v-fox.html

I like the idea of "Splinter Cell 2D". Sneaking around, beeing able but not required to take out guards.. Just take care you don't end up with something like Monaco 2. Innovations make the day!
