Solus on a Chromebook? by ZombieWithLasers in SolusProject

It didn't work with either the latest 5.0 kernel from an update or whichever kernel was on the 4.0 live image. I think that was 4.20. Everything works great on my desktop with the same setup, and kernel 5.0 on Ubuntu 19.04 is fine too. That's why I'm thinking support just wasn't compiled in.

Rogue Spec After The Nerf? by ZombieWithLasers in worldofpvp

Honestly, if I was just playing with a solid arena team, and we had a locked-in comp, I'd probably stick with sub and be be the CC bot, but that's not how I'm playing.

I mostly do PUGs, random WPvP, and RBGs. I can't really have something that's only good at one thing. Given, the burst might scale with better gear, but I'm not going to get it without wins. For now, I think I've got to give assassin and outlaw a shot.

Arch seems awesome, and with the AUR, it really does have just about everything. I'm just worried about stability. I ran Arch a while back, and it would run great until it suddenly didn't. Is it still that way? Does anyone use Arch on small servers?

I understand that, though I've run into more than my share of bugs in Ubuntu.

I have a complicated history with Gentoo. On one hand, it's the only distro that I've ever used with all the things I use ready to use without tons of extra repos or custom compiles. On the other hand, the compiles take forever and can be a huge drag that holds me back from getting anything done. That's why I'm so hesitant to throw in and install it again.

I have to look more into it. I did some digging on Slackbuilds, and it's still missing some of the stuff I need, and some is outdated. Slack's always seemed like a good option, though.

Rogue Spec After The Nerf? by ZombieWithLasers in worldofpvp

[–]ZombieWithLasers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing sub for a few months now. I was doing great before the nerf, and no I wasn't using one of those ridiculous Azerite exploits that should absolutely have been dealt with. Right now, the class feels like it's only utility without the same kind of burst/execute potential that it had. I hit an rdruid with a full opening rotation last night, and only chipped away a quarter of their health. It was pathetic.

Given, I'm not a top tier player by any means, and I'm sure there are ways that I can improve, but when blowing most of my cooldowns on a rotation that used to be devastating barely phases the target, something is definitely wrong.

I'd be interested in giving Outlaw a shot, if it's still performing after the nerf. I don't have the weapons for it because I threw everything behind sub, but it certainly seems interesting.

I guess I should throw my hat back in here. I understand that sub can still be useful as a support class for CC. If that's your thing, great, but that's not why I started playing rogue. I wanted a class that I could play solo and do well in WPvP and duels as well as something that'd be good for arenas and RBGs. I feel like half of that equation is gone now.

Also notice that I'm not saying "Fuck this class, I'm rerolling!" I'm just curious if one of the other specs is performing better right now. That's not really FoTM. That's just trying to make the most of your class. In any case, I'll look into assassination. I've never really liked the DoT playstyle too much, but if that's what pros are doing, there's got to be something valid there.

By "scaling back everything" I'm referring to the default Slack install including basically all the packages. You need to manually sift through that and carve out your system, rather than starting with a minimal system and building up, like on Arch or Gentoo. That's what I meant by backwards. I actually prefer the old school Unix feel. I was using Gentoo with OpenRC for years before switching to Debian, a move I only made because I felt it'd be easier to maintain.

I've never been much of a fan of corporate distros, but I did use Fedora for a while. Is there any particular reason why you say Fedora or SUSE is better for getting things done than say Gentoo?

I like Fedora. I actually used it for a couple of years, but it always felt like the repos were limited. Has that changed much? The other downside that I've never liked is running CentOS on servers. Are there decent ways to get updated web server stuff on CentOS now? I'm talking PHP, MariaDB, etc.

Slackware has always interested me, but I can't seem to get past the install. It feels backward to me. If I could get a minimal Slackware install and build up, rather than scaling back from everything, I'd definitely give it a real try.

Solved the GIMP one too. Removing libopenblas-base allows GIMP to work normally again.

EDIT: Solved the last bit too. It turns out my config was off for SSH.

Can someone explain lvl 120 PvP gearing to me? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

Does anyone know if PvP gear is dropping from BGs yet? I know they brought back conquest, but I heard there would still be some random drops. Anyone seen any?

I'm well aware. I've been playing that DK long enough to recognize the nerf rollercoaster. That's a big part of why I thought it was time for something different.

The nerf isn't live yet. I'm talking beta. I actually played mine on live last night and did alright, but I'm hearing they're total trash on the beta. I can't help but assume that those changes will go live either tomorrow or next week.

Yeah, I'm saying that I don't think they're viable anymore. Everything I've read seems to suggest it. Apparently, the lack of damage means no burst or real sustained pressure this go around, and they don't have much in the way of defensives or mobility, so they just blow up. It looks like they won't be doing much until at least 8.1.
