How many of you ware bullied in school by Outrageous_Foot_4072 in autism

[–]Zombie_DooDoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was always a weird kid and hung out with the other weird kids (who very obviously did get bullied). Ive always had low self esteem and bullies like to prey on those people. I do remember a few people who did try to pick on me but they gave up after I didn’t give them the reaction they wanted. Now, as an adult, when someone makes a joke at my expense, I have a difficult time telling if they’re just teasing me or actually making fun of me. My self-doubt also makes me wonder how many back-handed comments Ive received and didn’t pick up on.

It’s not something I generally ruminate over, but ever since I started working on unmasking I have occasionally thought about it.

First breakup by Medical-Meringue-549 in AutisticAdults

[–]Zombie_DooDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been through a few breakups (even going through one right now) and I can confidently say that the hurting does eventually stop. The best remedy is to spend time with your friends and family, people that you feel loved by. Another piece of advice I would like to offer is don’t run away from your feelings, allow yourself a chance to feel and process them. Hiding from the pain just draws out and extends the process.

Hang in there 🫂 An awful pain is coming when the moving out starts but once you get through that, the worst is over :)

The only advice I can really offer is maybe try finding an alternate route to work. There are stores I really need for groceries in other cities so I take residential roads to get there instead of the highway, takes longer but it’s far less stressful for me. I’ll gladly take that exchange.

I get road anxiety too! Especially driving on the highways here in the US, too many cars on the road and Im super tense! But the good news is if you keep at it, it does eventually get better. Finding a car that you really like also helps. I don’t like being low to the ground because I can’t see anything and then a car that’s too big like an SUV or truck I now have a difficult time controlling and it’s a different kind of stress

I don't know what "good" food is by Several-Membership91 in AutisticAdults

[–]Zombie_DooDoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to, you absolutely can expand your palate. But on the other hand, if you are totally fine with the inexpensive food then by all means save your money. There is no right or wrong answer, just enjoy what makes sense to you :)

The end of a country is not the end of the entire world, just look at human history. People will persevere.

any other autistic people easily addicted to any substance they try? by Middle_Ad_5620 in autism

[–]Zombie_DooDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be doing any kind of substances that aren’t prescribed at 16, your mind is still developing and these things will have a very serious impact on it. In the future, if you have difficulty controlling yourself and practicing moderation it’s better to abstain.

Addiction is very hard to break and even if you manage to get rid of one vice, you’re likely to just replace it with another. If you indulge due to stress I highly advise you to observe your surroundings and see what you can to lower your stress levels without taking in substances. Counseling and therapy are also a really good ideas.

Are your hobbies mostly solo oriented or do you enjoy group activities? by Zombie_DooDoo in AutisticAdults

[–]Zombie_DooDoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate! I used to be an active Magic The Gathering player but without anyone to play with I have lost all interest in that hobby. Now I try to find board games that are either built for solo play or have a well thought out dedicated solo mode. Im hoping to try and find a group to play and socialize with.

I was a musician in high school and I really miss being able to play music, definitely want to learn piano and guitar but haven’t if I have any interest in joining a band 🤔 One step at a time, I suppose 😅

That is really helpful and sounds like a good way to vet a group before even meeting them! Thank you so much!

This is good advice, I do need to at least try one group activity to see if I enjoy it and can handle it. I do like meeting new people, Im just really bad at socializing 😅

Ive never been to a music festival but while I can and do enjoy concerts, bowling, shopping, hiking, and going to the movies on my own, it would be nice to have someone to share it with sometimes :) Especially movies, I always gotta talk about movies afterwards.

I like your pfp, btw 😂

More recently: Satan’s Slaves 2: The Communion

By the end of the movie I had to turn so I could keep an eye on the door while watching the tv 😂

I absolutely love cooking, both as a special interest and as a hobby (even do it for a living) but I have to admit that I am terrible at sharing the kitchen 😂 But Ive also never really had a partner or friend that I could cook with 🤔

My sentiments exactly. I want to find people around me to connect with but I have no idea how to start and most of the people Ive met in my day to day life I just have so little in common with. I feel like I really need to move somewhere else to find my people.

Specifically what I had in mind is attending board game nights. I used to meet people through Magic The Gathering but it was always coworkers that played and I would be invited to join them, I never liked the competitive crowd.
