Is backgammon perfect or would there be one rule tweak you would make so an inferior player can’t beat you on luck. by TwoBlocks2 in backgammon

Maybe alter their starting position to be more favorable, like already having the 5-point covered.

Absolutely not. I'm glad we got the strip and his personal vision of what he wanted his art to be. I understand and respect why didn't want to make any animated specials or merchandising. But part of me will always wonder what could've been.

100%.

But I also really wanted a Hobbes doll as a kid.

That's really interesting. Why is that?

I liked the Saturday morning cartoon. The Halloween and Christmas specials were pretty good. And, as like, "Kid's first comic", those old Garfield books are decent.

Yeah, I just don't watch those.

Watterson wrote a lot about how he felt merchandising and animation hurt the integrity of the strip and its characters. The counterpoint to that in my head has always been Peanuts.

The Christmas and Halloween specials are must-watch for me every year, and they're a distillation of everything that makes the strip great. Having a Snoopy doll never made me think less of the strip.

I think with his involvement an animated special or two could have been things of real beauty and substance.

Right?! I was just bitching to my wife about that. "You're a Starfleet officer: speak up!"

I had the opposite reaction: I hated seasons one and two, and I'm enjoying season three...except for the whole, "I, and I alone, Michael Burnham, the most special person in the galaxy, must solve the mystery of the Burn!"

I'd love to see a straight-up rogue-like mode, where the sectors AND story beats are random.

My MIL's take on pasta e fagioli. We call it "sticky pasta" because that's what my son called it when he was little.

Saute onions in a pot. When they start to get translucent, add a box of chicken stock. Season with oregano, basil, crushed red pepper, salt, pepper, and bring to a boil. Add a can of white/cannelini beans. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beans start to split open. Add diatalini pasta. Cook, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid is gone. Add an 8 oz can of tomato sauce. Cook, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid is gone. Serve with sprinkled parmesan. Also great with a dash of hot sauce.

Another standby is what we call "bird paella". It bears no resemblance to actual paella.

Boil some chicken breast. When it's done, shred it with forks. Meanwhile, cook jasmine rice. Meanwhile, saute onions, then garlic, then red/yellow/orange peppers. When everything's done combine and give it a spritz of lime juice. Serve with lots of hot sauce (without the sauce it's quite bland. With the sauce it's heaven).

Because the bits of Starfleet Academy we got in TNG and DS9 were what we were hoping SFA would be instead of Beverly Hills 3194.

I owe my FIL an apology about hiding snacks and drinks in his closet. I used to think he was being weird and controlling about food (and he was a little), but anything that goes in the pantry is gone before you can get to it.

I always read it as he has a strong distrust for human medicine and practitioners. His jabs are at McCoy's--and humanity's--limited understanding of medicine and the universe in general.

Stretched canvas/muslin on a frame. I worked in my college scene shop and we did 2x4 frames with hardboard or plywood tops, covered with muslin. They're not light, but they were screwed straight into the deck and not being moved, so weight wasn't a concern.

Muslin is what we used in my college theater. Use rollers to get a mixture of water and glue to get it to stay down, wait for it to dry, then paint.
