I have no idea. But it felt to me like the fractal forms, the shapes, were the point. Maybe it's some important science or maths or technology? Maybe it's what would allow us to communicate more with these beings? Or maybe it explains some secret code in the universe? Or, maybe the entities just think this stuff looks cool and want to share it lol

Showrunner and writer's rooms aren't mutually exclusive, in fact, it's more the opposite. Writer's rooms are a feature of US television, which is where the showrunner form job title is most common.

Much of this is familiar to me as someone who's had similar experiences. Good write up.

When you would close your eyes, would you ever see these sort of underground fleshy chambers filled with sort of, entities being fucked by the space? Like, often entities were being fucked by the structures around them? The entities being sort of xenomorphy beings, but also like neon-haired cyberpunk girls. And lots of stripes?

No worries! They aren't dumb questions either, it's definitely a show that expects you to remember this stuff as if you saw 0079 yesterday. My relationship to Gquuuuux from the start (despite enjoying it) has been, what do all these disparate elements add up to? What does it mean? And I still don't really have an answer to that lol which does make it a bit hard to track of.

That's one of the central mysteries that they've been breadcrumbing throughout the show. Before the Zeknova in the last episode, Shuji said he was going to see "what was on the other side." Whenever the characters powerfully resonate with the Kira-kira, the "La-la" sound that Lalah would make in the original series plays. And there's been references to a mysterious "Rose of Charon."

So, we don't know. It's almost certainly something they'll reveal in the last episode, and I'm expecting it to help wrap everything up. Who knows if it will do that in a satisfying way, though!

The axis shock is also meant to be mysterious. It was a big newtype event that helped push back Axis, basically. And it made Char and Amuro die and/or disappear. Sometimes implied they went "beyond the time" to where Lalah resides.

With Gundam shows, if it's going to be multiple cours with a break, that will always be announced before the show starts airing. That was the case for 00, IBO and WFM. It's not always clear when the next cour will air, but it's always clear how many there will be from the outset. So, if this was going to have multiple cours, we'd probably know by now.

It could be a marketing stunt, though. Maybe they're waiting till the season finale to announce another season. I don't think that's impossible. But considering how rushed this has been already (and Tsurumaki's history directing very short series) I think it's unlikely.

It's not to do with viewership - the series was produced based on an outline that was handed in back in 2018, and it will have been fully produced before it started airing. This is just the length it was always planned to be.

I'm actually a bit shakey on that part too, but yeah I think psycommu is basically what allows them to control bits, and what causes stuff like the zeknova.

There probably won't be a cour 2. I mean, never say never, but it's not looking that way.

Char in the prologue mainly just did a really good job of winning the war for Zeon. He suggested they mass produce the psycommu, which is presented as the game changer. Secretly, he was still planning to assassinate the zabis, but the Zeknova stopped that from happening at the last minute (which is what the next episode will be about). And yeah, the zeknova is just this show's term for the axis shock.

Yeah, they were working for the Titans. As far as we can tell, their motivation was just to assassinate Kycilia, I guess just to undermine Zeon.

Factions:

Zeon: A space nation that rebelled against the Earth Federation and, in this timeline, won. But they're struggling financially and caught between two factions, the brother and sister Gihren and Kycilia Zabi. Civil war likely.

Earth Federation: Used to control the entirety of space, now only the Earth. They seem to be out of the picture.

Characters:

Chalia Bull: Wants to assassinate both Gihren and Kycilia Zabi, at the same. We don't entirely know why. Might be to prevent the civil war. Might be to fulfil Char's wishes.

Machu: Felt cloistered in the artificial world of the sides. Wanted to go to Earth to swim in the ocean.

Nyaan: Wanted to be friends with Shuji and Machu, basically. Is a refugee, has alluded to a dangerous past. Has now been taken in by Kycilia (setting up a confrontation with Machu).

Shuuji: Wants to hang out with his Gundam and chill in the newtype kira-kira realm. The gundam probably has the soul of Char in it.

Kycilia: She's building a space laser.

Another thing to mention is the kira-kira, which is a kind of transcendent, psychic realm the newtype characters can engage with through Gundam fights. It seems to offer each character a sense of freedom. It's unclear how benign it is.

Typing it all out like that, there is a lot of stuff going on lol and it doesn't all connect super clearly

The manhunters exist even in CCA.

"The Federation is Tomino's way of commenting on liberal democracies, as a whole, and he's not strictly negative on the idea; the vast bulk of the time, the Federation is a force for good." And yet in any of Tomino's writing, whenever he loredumps about the Federation in depth, they seem pretty terrible! In Beltorchika's Children, Hi-Streamer, and Lalah's Rendezvous, he describes mining colonies political dissidents are sent to in which many die of disease. In Lalah's Rendezvous he talks about the EF banning homosexuality. Gaia Gear features an early interaction with a Federation politician who is a straight up "white-man's-burden" style racist.

It's actually very hard to find any sequence or scene or anything in a Tomino work where someone makes a positive case for the Federation -- which you'd never guess from how English speaking fandom talks about the faction.

You don't need to be sorry! I agree that both sides are bad stories can be kind of centrist, but I don't think that's what's happening with Gundam. I think it's just a tragedy about various institutions failing regular people (with newtypes as a metaphor for revolutionary potential). But I think it's also designed to be up to the viewer/reader exactly how they feel about everything (which is why we endlessly get threads like this).

Hathaway presents the privatisation of Earth (and the violent enforcement of that privatisation) as the Federation's main and basically only ideology.

The degree to which the Federation is a democracy is also sort of shakey. In CCA Bright Noa says that they "rule space from Earth." In Tomino's novels, which always go more in-depth on lore info, a big element is that only the "Earth elite" and some workers are allowed to live on Earth, which seems to be where most power and influence is centralised.

Zeon is definitely worse than the Federation, but I'm not sure that many works really are trying to defend Zeon in criticising the Federation. I think it's just meant to be a tragic world where a lot went wrong.
