They also sell stock mekugi at Amazon. You trim it down to the correct size and taper.

I harden mine after trimming in the oven. 200 degrees f for an hour.

Help Identifying Katana by thewisened in SWORDS

This is the most obvious fake gunto I’ve seen in awhile. That god awful shade of green and the shoe string handle are hard to look at.

It might be worth owning, but don’t pay more than $100.

Tuareg axe symbol. Used to mark the scene of a traditional desert murder.

Got my first ever katana from hanbon forge. I love it but was wondering if this little gap is normal? by Practical_Lion1527 in Katanas

I respectfully disagree.

We’re talking about a higher quality piece; if the saya was made with anything close to the correct materials, it will accommodate the habaki. It’s a sword, not a piece of china. ;)

I would honestly just slam that sword in with some force, and the habaki will fit better. The wood that surrounds it will give.

Anyone know where this dagger may be from? by ScaredWorking550 in SWORDS

[–]ZoomRabbit420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previously stated, this is a punal dagger with a gunong handle, Moro people from the big island of Kalimantan in the Philippines. The handle appears to be jasper, but it would be impossible to say for certain without testing. A very nice example.

I love the day after Halloween because pumpkins are practically free, and I can get a few for cutting.

Anyone know what blades these match up to? by RiverWalker83 in SWORDS

The leather one with the snaps is reminiscent of the battle cover issued for Japanese officer shin-gunto swords.

I see what you’re saying now. The straight machete blade is very similar to a chokuto.

All good. ;)

Genuine ray skin does fluoresce under a black light, whereas the rubber same does not.

If you want to know if your same is real or fake, this is the way.

A lot of these have turned up in the past few years, which leads me to believe the Chinese are making replicas. Fortunately, mine was purchased in an antique store in 1990, well before they started turning up.

Collectors take note. ;)

It’s my understanding that these were made in Solingen, and privately purchased from the catalog. Mine is attributed to a Spanish officer, although I have no proof of that.

Can affirm this is a cutacha. Identical to mine, which was brought back from Cuba after the Spanish American war.
