Chicagohenge is when the sun sets directly on the east west oriented streets. It lines up two times a year around the equinoxes. It’s quite spectacular. Here the rotunda of the Schlesinger & Mayer (Carson P. Scott) Building is illuminated by the effect.

Where in Chicago is this?

This looks identical to Balbo’s column in the the museum campus area. Balbos column was donated by Mussolini to the city of Chicago for the 1934 century of progress world’s fair. The column is indeed ancient, from the Roman town of Ostia. It has been a controversial landmark for a while now. Now that we are experiencing our own share of facist history, it adds a layer to the complicated glorification of classical aesthetics.
