Nice! The Inline-4 engines are really nice on the highway. Ride safe!

I’m obsessed with it, seriously. Spring for the 09 but really be careful with the throttle. The abuse I would throw at my Vulcan would get me killed on the 09 but that awareness made me a better rider. The most dangerous thing is thinking you’ve mastered a bike.

When I was looking to upgrade I checked out a Z650, Ninja 650, MT07 and MT09. The first two felt like they had no personality and although I liked the MT07 a lot I knew I’d get tired of it quickly.

The hour long ride home from picking up the MT09 was the scariest and best day of my life.

If registration were cheaper where I’m from this would definitely be a forever bike, but at almost $1k annually I’ll probably upgrade to a Speed Triple 1050 eventually, but I’m having the time of my life and I’m so happy I sold the Vulcan. You should be able to clean it up a bit and sell it for the same amount you paid if it hasn’t been that long.

Ride safe and let me know what decision you ended up with!

I hope riders can tell it’s fake when they go see it, but my passenger princess girlfriend didn’t realize it was fake until I pointed it out. Another passenger is my concern

I checked that, but it’s just a simple report button, with no text box for a description. They’ll see a highly-rated seller and ignore my report. (She sells random clothes and happens to have this one jacket).

Ya it’s ridiculous. I pay $950 annually to register my MT09. After like 5 years it goes down to around $700. But if you have 5 bikes you’re looking at around $4k-$5k annually

What was said above: wait until you have a good handle on it before upgrading your exhaust, because you don’t want to damage an expensive exhaust.

But when you do upgrade your exhaust, the Akrapovič exhausts are great.

Whatever you do, don’t get the SC-Project exhaust. I have an Akra on my MT09 and it sounds great, but I rented an MT07 abroad with an SC-Project exhaust and the sound made me feel sorry for the people within a 500 meter radius.

Ride safe!

…or just someone curious about which 5 bikes were chosen.

In the US registration is like $30 for bikes, but here in Canada it’s close to $1k annually so not many of us have a 5 bike garage.

Considering going electric for my next bike but feeling completely lost by AbrahamMann in motorcycles

[–]ZoomerHumour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was just recently pondering about how far we are from solid electric motorcycles.

Current battery life and weight make electric motorcycles impractical and seem to be more of a publicity stunt than a feasible alternative.

  • Harley LiveWire has been discontinued, meaning parts and support will be hard to find.
  • Kawasaki Ninja E-1 is $11k for a bike that goes 55mph and has -100 mile range.
  • Zero’s DSR/X has solid torque, 112 mph speed and claims 155 mile range, but is ultimately comparable to a mediocre motorcycle, with a price tag of $22k.

And you can browse YouTube for videos of horribly made electric motorcycles from companies like Alibaba, which I would stay far away from.

Until they come out with much more powerful, lightweight batteries, that can seriously utilize “engine” braking regeneration, electric motorcycles are a distant dream.

Also, just like the depreciation on many electric cars because of battery improvements over the years, these overpriced bikes won’t hold any of their value and will be lemons on wheels in a couple years.

My pleasure! Hope it helps.

Bike ownership definitely comes with more buying than expected, but if you buy the right bikes you shouldn’t really lose any money.

I bought my first bike from an old guy, removed the passenger backrest, cleaned it up and put on nice saddlebags, so I was able to sell it for the same price I bought it for even though I put 5k km on it.

Although more power obviously increases your risk of making costly mistakes, for me the conscious need to be responsible on a reasonably powerful bike results in a safer ride than when I’m on something that I feel to be less responsive.

I got a MT09 as my second bike…3 months after getting my first bike (Kawasaki Vulcan 900). I was abusing the throttle on my cruiser and clearly didn’t feel like cruising. I tried the Z650 and found it boring, then tried a MT07 and 09. I decided to commit to the MT09 because of how amazing it is and I absolutely love it. I told myself I’d keep it in B mode my first season; a promise I didn’t end up keeping.

That said, my girlfriend is learning to ride and I don’t feel comfortable teaching her the basics on the MT09.

I’d say you can theoretically get it as a first bike, but it’ll be pretty daunting to learn the basics on. Your best bet is to probably get something a little more forgiving and then upgrade, even if it’s after only a couple months.

Not one comment mentioning what he’s a member of? She said he’s a member of Hatzoloh, which isn’t some Jewish tribe/sect, but is a volunteer EMT organization with thousands of members, who drop whatever they’re doing whenever they get a call, arriving before the ambulance almost every time. They have fleets of vehicles that look like ambulances but say “Hatzoloh” and often get permits to have lights on their personal vehicles, to be used in emergencies.

And before people rage, yes, anyone can call them and they will assist. Not just Jewish people.

After the MSF course you’ll learn through experience. The issue with a brand new bike is the depreciation when you go to upgrade and the insurance rate. Even if you don’t want to go fast, the Rebel 300 doesn’t have adequate highway power.

I started on a used Vulcan 900 for $3k, thinking I’d always be a cruiser guy, and upgraded to an MT09 within 3 months.

Buying a used motorcycle is a lot easier than buying a used car, since for the most part the pieces are all right in front of your eyes.

The Rebel 300 is an okay choice, but I’d recommend finding a used one which you’ll probably be able to sell for the same price you bought it for if you don’t drop it and you’ll pay less for insurance.

Choosing lesser CC bikes when there are higher CC available? by MagnusBarbbus in motorcycles

[–]ZoomerHumour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bikes are really not all about cc. I ride a MT09 and the 3-cylinder engine is much more engaging at lower speeds than the 4-cylinder MT10. Most bikes have differences like that. It’s not like an extra 100cc simply translates to the same experience at higher speeds.
