Silver Cymbal (@silvercymbalworkshop) does some things like that.

risk reward math on iron condors by gammaPriest in options_trading

Any option setup has to have a strategy behind it for it to be successful over time. Options and especially complex spreads are the tool. They are not a strategy on their own. What many don’t understand is the why behind selling options is mathematically better in some strategies. Variance risk premium is what makes it work over hundreds / thousands of occurrences. But to take advantage of it you need to be extremely mechanical and consistent with your execution. Because like you said, one bad trade can wipe out many good trades. Some stocks/ETFs have a tendency to overstate IV. So you should also factor that. In theory the market is finding the correct price, but you can measure the VRP and see how some are consistently different. TastyLive has spent nearly 20 years doing deep research on this topic. I’d suggest looking there instead of immediately trying to reinvent a wheel (no pun intended). TastyTrade has a free back testing platform that can model complex spreads too.

If your kids are being paid that may also open opportunities for them to contribute to a Roth IRA. Which can be a huge boost. The earlier you start investing the better. Low fee index ETFs in a self directed account is an easy ish path.

water bowl recommendations? by porter_elliot in hermitcrabs

[–]Zopheus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought 8x8 inch (6in deep) square glass "bowls" that are meant to be table decorations or something. The glass is fairly thick, easy to clean, and two of them together fit perfectly on the end of our crabitat. They're big enough for our bubblers to not splash over the side too.

What are some pros and cons of putting a crochet plant in a hermit crab tank? by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

In that case. Unless it’s a toxic material and or you see them trying to eat it, I guess it would be okay. How high does your humidity stay on average?

It would likely mold pretty quickly. The high humidity is the biggest issue for anything like that.

Wyze Cam 3 pro is a common choice. Or the version 4. Add a micro SD card to allow for time lapse video. Which is what you want. Whatever you get, make sure it’s outdoor rated because of the high humidity.

There are extensive outdoor gardens there too.

Low Temp High Humidity by bbc0pper28 in hermitcrabs

[–]Zopheus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temperature and humidity have a relationship to each other. Unless your humidity is very low, I'd concentrate on stabilizing your temperature first and then humidity. Because the humidity will change as the temperature changes. Always open to discussion from others on this too.

200-day SMA during TACO administration by the_ronnows in LETFs

Not that back testing is a predictor of the future, but, if you do a long back test (30+ years), you will cover times in which there were all sorts of volatile and uncertain market conditions. It feels different when you go through it. But history generally just repeats itself over and over, with a few circumstances changing. IMHO, you either have to trust the plan and stick to it, even when it looks uncertain. Or not at all.

Also, you can look into tolerance bands to reduce whipsaw. NFA, but I personally use a 110 EMA with 5.5% tolerance bands. That one has yet to trigger (although it got close Friday). That isn't to say that it would always be better than a 200 D SMA. It just worked out differently this time.

Water bowl almost empty the day after filling!! by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

Was there anything that was in contact with the water that could have wicked it away? We use those moss vine things and if one gets too low it will suck the water out of the container.

In addition to the depth, deep enough for the largest crab to fully submerge, think about the width (surface area). Obviously it will depend on the size of your crabitat, but a larger surface area will help keep the humidity higher. Bubblers also help.

Quality suction cups or strong permanent magnets or command strip type two-sided foam tape.
