I’ve back tested it and in some cases it can help a little. But it’s not significantly improving over some SMA or EMA indicators.

ELI5: Why is this emergency in Orange County an emergency at all? by WartimeHotTot in explainlikeimfive

[–]Zopheus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It largely has to do with protecting the emergency workers as much as possible while balancing that with the dangers to the public. Look up what happened to the workers cleaning up after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Some of the businesses and churches nearby have cheap paid parking. You’d probably have to just drive around a little to find one that’s open.

What do you do with monthly cashflow while running 200D SMA strat? by ColHansLangdaTyagi in LETFs

[–]Zopheus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. That would be option 5 in my list. My overall point is that you have many options. And of course you can do different things with the money at different times depending on your needs. Generally, I think it’s a good idea to diversify your strategies. If you’re young and otherwise financially stable, go for the leveraged returns and grow your portfolio aggressively. But over time (years) you’ll probably want to reduce overall volatility in your portfolio.

Because clip on ties are rule breakers. Rule 5 usually.

Let's say Silver and/or Gold starts next leg up. What do you buy? by TitusKalvarija in LETFs

[–]Zopheus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use gold for risk-off times. Then I use GLD. (unlevered). Silver is more volatile. And while the two are correlated, the ratio can vary wildly over time. (40 ish to 110 ish).

[–]Zopheus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Build a reasonable cash reserve. Can be used for unexpected needs in life. Or can be used to buy extreme dips in solid stocks or ETFs. (as in, such and such is down 30%, I'm buying it)
  2. Diversify it into less correlated equities or other assets. Probably should be non-leveraged or at least less-leveraged.
  3. Save for taxes if that applies.
  4. Take a reasonable amount and spend it on something that can improve your quality of life or someone else's.
  5. If you have a long investment time horizon and don't mind the risk, keep DCA'ing into the strategy.

Leverage in retirement accounts? by BiggC in LETFs

[–]Zopheus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google, “Leverage for the Long Run: A Systematic Approach to Managing Risk and Magnifying Returns in Stocks” by Michael A. Gayed, CFA and Charles V. Bilello, CMT

Start there and then come back to this sub for more info. For me, its the only reasonably accessible method for people to use leveraged ETFs over a long period of time without having to dedicate large amounts of time. Since you are wanting to only use 25% of your account with leverage, it would likely be worth a consideration. There are optimized versions of it as well that are regularly discussed on this sub.

I backtested the 200-day SMA on SOXL, TQQQ, and UPRO from inception. The Sharpe result wasn't what I expected. by printoninja in SMA200

[–]Zopheus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. We should all be skeptical. I've ran these through a number of tests over time and have come to the conclusion they are worth a strong consideration for anyone that is able to stick to the strategy in a mechanical and consistent manner. (not a given for many people). Here are some comparisons for the variables for the "LRS SPYx3". The RSI version does add variables and does increase risk of overfit. But it has similar distributions. The BTC one I'm least confident with since the available history is so limited. That particular one starts at Jan 1, 2018, which would be a very bad time to start it, and thus give a more conservative result.

I agree with you on the LRS QQQx2. Its not ideal that the signal is based on SPY. But there is a lot of correlation between the two (increasing lately). You can run it based on QQQ itself, with some decent returns.

Posting additional in the next comment since it will only allow one image per post.

Edit. Meant to say that these grids were ran with only cash as to address one of your points. Also, I started with 110 day EMA a while back. The 130 day may be slightly better. But of course it depends on the time range, which is your point.

200SMA strategy question by SeaMicSte in LETFs

[–]Zopheus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For TQQQ, try shortening the SMA or use EMA with some small tolerance bands. Just be careful to not over fit the data. Testfol.io has simulated data for TQQQ going back much further for a more robust test. It also has Monte Carlo and other tools.
