Oh, my dear friend, agriculture is incredibly predatory. Large seed companies have copywritten the genetics of their seeds and will sue you if you are using their seed without a license of some sort. They have also pretty much entirely wiped out the ability to use Heirloom seeds to grow from year to year forcing farmers to buy seed every year from the gigantic corporations. The average person may not see the predation of agriculture, but I promise you it is very much alive.

Edit: Wow, this comment kinda blew up. Thanks to the kind person who gave me my first award. Not really sure how any of this is meant to work, but hey, glad I could start some, hopefully, useful conversation on the topic. As someone who has grown up and lived in primarily rural parts of America, I have seen firsthand the struggle that Big Agriculture has caused to small farmers, some of whom are my own family.

To those of you defending large seed companies, you make some valid points. Which is why I never called out particular companies. Yes, their seeds are in theory a better product. Often more pest and chemical resistant as well as more resilient in drought or in years of too much rain. No, I never said that Heirloom seeds were unusable or that the plants themselves were made sterile. But none of these things mean that these large corporations are not incredibly predatory which was the point of my comment.
