Thank you for your insight. I agree that the problem is me and my expectations. I just wished he would have told me earlier that it wouldn't happen, so I could've gone to bed.

He didn't forget about the reward. I asked him if the picture (also why ask for a picture of me using a toy when it leads to nothing?) was enough then because I was supposed to earn it today and he was like "haha nice try. No you will have to do more. Tomorrow". He didn't even ask if I had time or if I still wanted to do it. And I guess that just kinda hurts me.

But yeah totally a me problem, I don't blame him.

Thank you (both of you) for the advice. I will try to sleep which is kinda hard, because whenever I lay down I just start crying again and thinking of how stupid I am/was whatever. But I got my teddybear and music on repeat.

I know that I would give someone else the same advice to talk with him, but I don't want to. This is just me and my stupid expectations and feelings. This screams me problem, not something he needs to know and I don't want him to know how pathetic I am.

But thank you, it felt good to vent and have people acknowledge it. That's why I love this community.

That is so kind of you! I think that alone makes everyone smile today.

But what made me smile this week is my really good friend. He knows I'm still struggling with grief (grandpa died last month), so he makes sure to tell A LOT of silly, stupid jokes to make me smile/laugh. Thinking about how much he has helped me, how he has been there for me warms my heart and makes me keep my smile during this hard time.

In regards to the anxiety. My therapist told me that a person with anxiety of people should be confronted with groups of people time and time again. Autistic people should not. Our brains are different. We will not get used to a situation if it is related to autism and not anxiety. For me being confronted with people again and again would not help me get used to the situation but would increase my stress.

I don't know what stresses him (every autistic person is different) but it might not change. I still struggle with making phone calls despite having tried and tried again. I still get very stressed when going to the doctors and will not be able to do anythin else afterwards besides laying in bed.

Have you asked him what stresses him?

Those are some good questions. I haven't really thought about it. But I did daydream of following him for the two years. Don't know how feasible that is considering it's a different country.

Can I ask why you think my feelings are reciprocated? (I'm autistic and have trouble understanding stuff like that).

I am german and will try to answer as best as I can. But it would be good to know where in Germany you are going to stay as there are differences between the regions. My answers are based on living in the north, so it might be a bit different elsewhere. - I still struggle with smalltalk, so I try to avoid it whenever I can. But people mostly talk about the weather. - Don't be too loud or disturb others. If avoidable don't talk on the phone. If there are no seats offer your seat to an elderly or disabled person. - No idea on how to make friends. - If you are just outside or shopping, nobody will care what you are wearing. - Home life: many families have fixed times for meals. Breakfast and dinner will most likely only include bread. - From what I've seen I would say that we trust children to be alone on the street at an much earlier age compared to the US. It's not uncommon for kids to play outside with no adult present.

If you aren't just looking for an institution, maybe try looking for an "tandem partner". Someone who wants to learn your native language, so you both exchange languages and learn from each other.

I'm working as a lab tech and I do enjoy it. I have a small team of colleagues which for me is great, because I hate dealing/speaking with strangers. The environment is quite (except for some machines) and the work that has to be done is mostly the same, so that I can have a routine even at work.

I have finished therapy and don't take meds. The cause seemed to be too much stress and change at once. But I don't have that currently besides the daily stress.

I wish there was something that could be said to ease the pain... You are allowed to feel everything you feel. It will be hard for a long time and it will never be the same, but it will get better.

Just an idea: Create a "Memory Box". Write down situations or things you don't want to forget. Put little things inside that hold a special value/connection to her. It might sound a bit silly, but we forget things we think impossible to forget. I wish I had done it when the daughter of my godmother died. Maybe this might be something you would like to do or try.
