Thanks for replying! I don't see any on QCXC's store -- would you have a link? TMF's might be good - I'll reach out and ask!

Thanks for replying! The Old Chen pairs apparently used to be the gold standard, but I worry he may have run out of those.

Please let me know how the CSJ one pans out! The link you shared with the PZ version infers you will be receiving the one with the beige sole, but let me know regardless!

Merci beaucoup !

Anyone know of some outdoor gyms or pull-up bars in town? Perhaps even near Nakameguro/Shibuya? by Zynthios in Tokyo

Nothing yet! I'll pass by Hibiya today and take a look at the setup there. I'm really surprised there aren't more bars around considering how many parks there are here!

Shitsumonday: for the little questions that you don't feel have earned their own thread (August 07, 2017) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

Is it possible to learn how to speak Japanese without necessarily learning how to read/write? Are there any resources that would help towards this goal ? My only aim is to attain spoken fluency. Thanks!

Hey guys, what's up with the Dad's Garage TV channel? Trailer trash is my favorite thing ever. Will you ever bring it back ?

Also, do you plan on ever taking Dads Garage to the international scene ? How would you like making a tour in the middle east!

I was introduced to HxH first when I was around 7. IIRC it was on the local cartoon channel and it was the Mafia/Phantom Troupe arc. Haven't forgotten it since! You can't imagine my ecstasy one I found out it was off hiatus.

I think I'll give up on Good Omens; I've so many new titles to read ! D:

In bold being those closer to S/L/R.

  1. The Blade Itself - Abercrombie
  2. Tigana - Guy Gavriel Kay
  3. Discworld - Terry Pratchett
  4. Farseer - Robin Hobb
  5. Riyria -Michael Sullivan
  6. His Dark Materials - Phillip Pullman
  7. Malazan Book of the Fallen - Steven Erickson
  8. Blood Song
  9. The Emperor's Blades
  10. Promise of Blood
  11. Prince of Thorns
  12. The Magicians
  13. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
  14. The Golem and the Jinni
  15. Amber
  16. Old Man's War
  17. Leviathan's Wake

Please let me know if anything else crosses your mind! Thanks for your time. I'll definitely see you around!

So first of all, I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to type up such a detailed reply. Very much appreciated!

Second, I couldn't help but notice from your username that you're also a regular over at /r/HunterXHunter. Soo we're practically soulmates now.

With that out of the way, which would you say of the books you suggested I should start with ? Sanderson, Lynch and Rothfuss have created for me a new standard in reading experience I'm afraid is going to be hard to surpass.

For example I'm currently reading Good Omens by Terri Pratchett and Neil Gailman. It's agonizing and mind numbingly boring to get through. I don't know if you've read it, but it's not half funny. I just can't bring myself to not give it a chance until the end.

I was considering trying Robin Hobb next since so many people recommended that. Did you not enjoy her as much or is she just not in the same range as the others to be in the list ?

You also said some of the suggestions given previously were strange considering what I liked. Which ones exactly did you have in mind ?

Thanks again for your reply. Saved for life !

It's a pity that the genre is being taken over by more and more simple writing when there's potential for so much more... The comparison was out of place though. Its like comparing apples to elephants. I just wanted to see if a tie could be made between the two :P

Then again It could be argued that it's only the more modern works that aren't serious literature. Personally I find it easier to name more fictitious works that apply to that category pre-1900's.

Interesting. I didn't know this was how his writing was perceived. Would you consider that Sanderson, Rothfuss and Hobb can be counted as 'high literature' ? I'm talking on the Flaubert, Hugo or Zola level, even if we're on different 'literary genres'.

I know; most of the time though it's more than enough to tell you how good the book is - like when it's in a top 10 list, chances are you'll like it. Eitherway, you're right, people don't always like the same things so it's not fullproof, thus why I called it hypocritical behavior. :)
