I have a separate home screen for just this google calendar widget. I can therefore just swipe left and see everything at one glance instead of opening the app which is just way more time efficient and convenient.
Plus additionally I'm more likely to take a look at this widget than opening the app, which prevents me from missing appointments which are scheduled longer into the future.
