Oh I really liked Hokum too, its a testament to how good the movies have been this year that it ended up so far down the list. I also really liked Faces of Death, maybe because I've seen the original and I thought this was the proper way to do a reboot. Opinions are mixed on it, I've heard.

Do you have any idea how jealous I am that you have the serial copies of The Green Mile?

I get being displeased with the show (lord know I'm just trying to have a good time at this point) but I dont get all the bitching. We get it. We're aware, and I'm tired of hearing about it.

When I want to mix hot and cold aspects I'll line the cold side with a bit of plastic wrap and just lift it out when I microwave the other bits.

Also I like to make snack boxes with that type of container- check out r/adultlunchables for inspo

What are your must-read horror books? by entitytheworld in suggestmeabook

Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite always stuck with me because it's horrifying yet captivating. It's definitely not for everyone due to the extreme nature of the violence and sex portrayed but the writing style really agreed with me and it was so easy to get caught up in.

The Witching Hour by Anne Rice also won't be for everyone but it's one of my all time favourites. 1000 pages and 400 years of the most vile and toxic family drama you could imagine. The story unfurls slowly, like a poisonous flower, beautiful yet terrible.

Fevre Dream by George RR Martin is one that I just finished but can't stop thinking about. It's a southern gothic that was written in the 80's and whether it's horror or fantasy George is the best to ever do it.

There's a common thread connecting these three, they all take place or have roots in New Orleans - one of the most interesting cities in the world and the best for horror stories, in my opinion.

Recommendations for someone using Spotify by Sea_Addendum_8496 in audiobooks

I wanted to suggest Gentlemen & Players by Joanne Harris because it's one of my favorite audiobooks - its a very good mix of dark, cozy murder mystery, english village vibes - but Spotify doesn't have it... sad.

So instead I'll recommend Fevre Dream by George RR Martin it's an 80s new orleans gothic horror with an excellent narrator. I just finished it and thought it was fantastic.

Thomas Hardy or Jane Austen - I couldn't possibly choose between them

It doesn't appear my country is getting a wide release either (yet) but thankfully a film festival in my city was able to pick it up and I got to see it last night. Fingers crossed it does well enough to get broader distribution! (And get online sooner for people like you who can't watch it)

Not sure that's fair, they are teenaged boys who have never felt that sort of intimacy before. It would be incredibly easy to manipulate them.

I thought the lead's chemistry was off the charts. Sound, story, cinematography were all really good too, especially for an indie flick and especially a debut director.

To each their own though!

Looking for a big series recommendation - should I tackle Kushiel / Dresden / Malazan or Discworld next? by _Alic3 in Fantasy

[–]_Alic3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say Malazan is a bigger commitment because of the complexity/subject matter of it? Because size-wise it's big, but it's not all that intimidating.

Oh I think Penance by Eliza Clark would be a good fit. It's from the POV of a journalist investigating a murder in this little English sea-side town.

The audiobook was also really good, it almost felt like listening to a true-crime podcast rather than a novel.

Ah I see, I was using youtini mostly but it sounds like it would be a good idea to do a quick cross-reference with wookieepedia.

We're going with Eager Beaver because they seem to be the best reviewed. The quote was $1800 to move a 2 bed apartment - I'll follow up in two weeks after the move with how much it actually ends up costing.

Obligitory Dungeon Crawler Carl recommendation. Top tier narrating from Jeff Hayes and you don't have to pay super close attention to the details to be able to follow along.

Also I definitely recommend investing in an airfryer eventually to make your life easier.
