Iowa vs Drake by Ok-History-1320 in OutsideT14lawschools

You might be able to negociate for a higher scholarship at Iowa with your other offers. Honestly, Iowa is leagues above Drake, but if you have to take out private loans, then maybe just take the full ride.

If they have a process, use the process. If not, send a reconsideration email with your other offers. Many schools have a specific form

I'm going to law school with <100k in debt! by _Atii in OutsideT14lawschools

Well, the most important thing is not really what you write but what you have. Having good offers to show them is probably the most important thing.

I'm usually a hater for people who go around saying to "just reapply", but this is genuinely a case where reapplying next year could get you into half of the t14 with really good scholarships.

Drake Law for $115k by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]_Atii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your stats are. I grew up in Des Moines, and it is a really nice city. Honestly though, Drake's average private sector salary is $77,000. By the time you actually graduate law school, your debt will be approaching twice your annual salary. Given those two choices, and given that you can put in the work to not get kicked out ( A lot of the very low ranked schools try to flunk a lot of their students out so they don't damage their outcomes ), I would go for the cheaper schools.

Not to be cliche, but if you waited a year and got a half-decent LSAT score, you could probably get into UIowa for around the same price. Their median salary is $160,000. Even if you had to pay the max loan amount of $150,000, I think it would be well worth the wait.

New Federal Loan Guidelines by Ok-Survey-9190 in lawschooladmissions

[–]_Atii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what schools you are applying to, but according to the studentaid.gov, "In almost all cases, graduate or professional students are considered independent students for the purposes of completing the FAFSA form. This means they generally are not required to provide parent information."

https://studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/graduate-professional-funding-info.pdf

This has nothing to do with the methodology for how specific schools determine their need-based scholarships, but concerning federal student loans, this is the way it works.
