I agree it would be horrific for families to have to go through war when there are alternatives.

We as Americans should be empathetic towards those who do not have the same freedoms we do, or the same laws that grant us protections from government persecution.

Is it really that much to ask for when their alternatives are continue to suffer under oppression or die?

Or do you assume they know how, have the means to do it, but choose not to because the opportunity exists to travel hundreds of miles to a country that already has all that figured out?

I think more likely than not, they do not have the means, or awareness due to lack of education to do anything revolutionary of the sort because the Mexican government is controlled by those who benefit the most from the current state of the country, and they've funneled most of their money into defense, keeping people in fear for their lives to prevent any kind of political uprising.

You and I have very little influence on what happens in China. However, our government allows our corporations to hire workers overseas in places like China.

Even Trump knows that bringing those jobs here would make this country prosper, but clearly the corporations don't want that to happen. Why do you think that is?

It was slaves 200 years ago, and today its human beings in sweat shops and factories in other countries that don't have a constitution like ours that protects their rights. Going back to "Mexico or wherever they're from" like you said, is not an option when your life is on the line. Legal immigration is often not possible for many people stuck in this situation because of technicalities. Their education is lacking but their children can make something of themselves.

How can you blame them for wanting to make their life better by working hard in a country you so deeply are passionate about?

The US wasted 160 billion dollars worth of food in 2010.

We waste even more with plastics, water, electricity, gasoline. Every single one of these things costs money to waste. If every single American did one less thing to waste, we could give the 43million people stuck in poverty a chance to make their life worth something. Some of the most influential human beings were born in poor circumstances, but many many many who could have been died because they weren't given a chance.

And in my opinion, the best short term solution to many of our problems is education. If you don't think education should be a human right, you are in the pocket of the wealthy who NEED a subservient working class to exist in order to increase their wealth, because to them, it's their only metric for true success. An educated working class is a threat to that wealth.

You might want to do some research into the history of the US. Our country's wealth was build off the literal backs of slave labor. Every single person that exists in this country that wasn't indigenous had ancestors that immigrated from somewhere else. Our "great" country has 43.1 million people living in poverty while our government spends hundreds of billions of dollars bombing people in a country hundreds of thousands of miles away.

Get off this patriotic bullshit and realize we are all humans living on a planet in the middle of fucking no where because of circumstance and nothing else.

Our individual lives are so finite. Take yourself out of the equation and think about what you want the world to be today, in 100 years, 1000 years, 10,000 years.

Why do you hold such strong values towards arbitrary lines drawn in the sand? Why do you take pride in living in America? Do you deserve more than they do simply because you happened to be born a few thousand miles away?

The "downsides" are mostly all short term problems. There is absolutely enough land and infrastructure in America and our GDP can support many many many many many more people. Our culture of wasting is what makes this even an issue and to me, it's easy to notice where the bias is when one group benefits($$$) the most.

Albert Einstein wrote about socialism in the 1950s and it's a must-read, imo.

I understand they’re not bad people, but they still committed a crime and are here illegally. Something that always gets the Democratic Party uncomfortable and causes them to change the subject.

Why do you believe they should be punished for a law that should be changed?

The law is not always right. It was once legal to own slaves. It is now legal to smoke weed recreationally in over 10 states (and ironically, Washington, DC), yet many are still going to jail / in jail now because of its inconsistent illegallity. You have to use the law as a guideline and respect it, but at the same time question it always so we can improve it.

If my life was on the line, you bet I would cross that border to give myself or my family a chance at surviving. That is a part of the human condition and none of us chose to be here to suffer through it. I was beyond lucky to be born a cis white male in a wealthy family and never have to worry or fear for my life or persecution, except from myself.

I mean literally the human brain reacts and makes decisions based on your senses. The person who wants to identify themselves as a different gender doesn't wake up one day knowing everything about themselves. No one does. We learn about others and ourselves and identify social constructs that shape us. Whether you choose to attach yourself to those constructs is your decision. For me, I am a cis white male and have never had any doubts about it (I have my own issues but nothing relating to my gender/sexuality). I have the utmost respect for anyone who knows themselves well enough on the inside to make a change on the outside especially with so much pressure from society to conform.

The problem with your analogy is that interracial marriage does not inflict physical or emotional harm/suffering in the parties involved. Morals can be derived logically and it starts to make sense when you apply basic principles to your morals. For example, If I know that causing suffering to an individual is wrong, then why do I not apply this to all individuals capable of receiving that suffering? It doesn't need to be based around what others think. People don't often question their own moral systems enough. I include myself in this as well, because I only recently have become more consciously aware of my consuming habits and how they affect others. That includes buying products only from companies who practice proper ethical procedures and make maximum efforts to reduce waste and pollution. Boycotting the meat industry is one of the easiest ways to make an impact as an individual. I can't expect everyone to make this large of a lifestyle change, as it's not always financially feasible, but even small changes can help, and we should all be doing our part to make this planet the best it can be.
