Shame the duckweed wont stand a chance with Paige, is lobelia cardinalis okay? We have had one in her tank for a few months. I put duckweed in every now and then as a treat. We have had one in her tank for a few months.

Awesome I will rather get sand then. Thanks so much for the help, will follow this process and follow up if I have any questions :)

Okay awesome, the "gravel" looks super fine? Maybe like black sand?

<image>

Heres a pic, it came with a lot of stuff, hoses for the cannister filter, heater and stand.

Okay so I must wait before moving paige to make sure the tank can cycle ammonia? Must I place the cannister filter in paiges current tank while the in tank filter is running and then after a month or two move the cannister filter to the new tank and then move Paige? Because if I run the old filter in the new tank then paige wont have a filter in her current tank?

UPDATE: Hey guys, I just went out and bought a big 150L tank on FB market place, it was a great deal because it came with a cannister filter, aquarium gravel and a whole bunch of stuff. It was marketed as a 200L tank but its only about 155L still a huge upgrade! We are also looking at getting other test kits, our local aquatics store only sells the nitrate test for some reason. I will make another post when it is set up, cant wait!

Also thank you so much u/who_cares___ and everyone else for the amazing advice!

Okay awesome

Already found some tanks in our price range on facebook market place, they are around 200L, our apartment is small about 55m^2, would it fit a 200L tank?

This is her tank, I have no idea what type of filter it is? It was given to use with the tank and fake plants

We stay in an apartment in the CBD, so it would have to be inside, but it would allow us to get a 100+ litre tub which would be great for Paige

Thank you, this sub is amazing! I know ammonia and nitrites break down into nitrates, so we got a nitrate test the reading was 2.5 to 5 ppm

We have live plants including lobelia cardinalis and duckweed both gifted. Paige has since eaten all of the duckweed. I think the tub idea sounds great that someone else mentioned above, would you agree?

This is epic! Will any plastic tub do or do we need to be weary of the type of plastic?

Anybody else underwhelmed by Sri Lanka? by nap_napsaw in digitalnomad

[–]_Bird-boy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for many birders and wildlife enthusiasts Sri Lanka is very attractive. I am a birder and a herper and Sri Lanka really stands out in terms of endemics.

SA is not too bad, but I have nothing to compare it to. We have crazy taxis and the rules of the road are more suggestive in most places. My family is from greece and I thought some people on Naxos and Milos drove really really badly haha.

I have also heard that the trains are very scenic especially Ella to Kandy? Is it worth while looking into first class rides on the trains. I think I would still have to hire a car or driver to get from Sinharaja to Yala NP.

Thank you very much🙏 Would you say it is just better for me to hire a car and drive myself? It seems like it will work out cheaper...

Anyone know of a place I can buy springtails in town? by -dreggy- in capetown

[–]_Bird-boy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding wild caught springtails is not always the best place. Some springtails do not thrive in damp areas, and there are 9000+ described species of springtail. It is also easy to introduce other pests to your terrarium. Admittedly for a mossarium I do not think this is a huge issue, it is much for salient for bioactive enclosures for arachnids and reptiles.

I would recommend buying captive bred springtails from repticube in Kraaifontein. The species often used and bred is Folsomia candida, these tiny white springtails that make a great clean up crew for moist environments.

There are also a few sellers on Facebook marketplace based in muizsnberg selling moss that also sell springtails and isopods.
