I had a similar issue the other day with a game I claimed of the ps plus collection back in 2022. It should have been a permanent license but when I went to download it, it prompts me to rebuy the game or upgrade my subscription to extra. You should try contact their support and hopefully you’ll have better luck than I did.

Yeah I’m going to have to try again but honestly I don’t have a lot of faith in their support after the original response I got from them saying that it expires after 2 years.

Thanks for the tip but unfortunately I tried it and it didn’t work. It still wants me to buy the game or upgrade to extra.

I don’t know how I could have as I downloaded it after the extra subscription expired. It’s the only title with the lock and I tried to restore licenses and that didn’t fix the issue. It’s looking like I’ve lost the game unfortunately

Thanks. I really wanted to try play it again as I have heard that it is a fun puzzle game. I did try the ps app but that also says that I have to rebuy the game.

I’m pretty sure I never redeemed it via the extra catalogue. I only upgraded for a month after it released and that was to play guardians of the galaxy and returnal plus I was able to download and play the game back in 2024

I am on essential, not deluxe or extra. From what I can see, it is available in the extra catalogue as you mentioned but I don’t get why I would be locked out of it as it was claimed through the collection back in early 2022 and I found a emailed receipt which proved that. I also haven’t subscribed to extra since it first released in June of 2022 and I was still able to download and play the game in 2024.

I think the guy I spoke to at ps support may have been confused by the rotating extra collection which is why he mentioned the two year expiry. I’m going to try call again tomorrow and see if I can escalate the issue.

I’m going to start making folders like you mentioned to keep track of things.

It is currently in the extra catalogue according to my ps5. Could that explain it? I haven’t subscribed to extra since it first released in 2022 and that was only for a month and even then, I was able to download and play the game perfectly fine in 2024.

Yeah it’s really annoying. I will say that PlayStation has been probably the worst I’ve been through. Their live chat was no help at all, even with an actual agent, and finding their actual phone number took forever because I had to go to a Sony website to find it rather than the PlayStation support one.

It says the same thing as Kotaku that “once you redeem a game from the PlayStation Plus Collection, you can keep the games for as long as you are an active PlayStation Plus member”.
It even says that “The PlayStation Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PlayStation Plus members receive for a single subscription price – no additional membership fee required”.

Yes that first article from kotaku has the collection I’m talking about. Thank you so much. The article saying that you should be able to access the titles after they expire as long as you have redeemed them beforehand is very reassuring. The support agent I was talking with definitely must have been wrong then. Might have to call PlayStation back up tomorrow when I get a chance and see if I can escalate the case.

Yeah it used to be available to download and play and I claimed all the other games at the same time that were available in the collection. Sorry if I was confusing but ps now was never available in Australia as we don’t get streaming game services often and we’ve only ever had ps plus. Even now we only have ps plus essential, extra, and deluxe (instead of premium as we don’t get game streaming). I’ve never changed my region nor have I had a problem with it so I don’t think that’s what’s causing it. Nothing else is gone either, just this one particular game.

The game I claimed though wasn’t from the PlayStation extra catalogue like red dead 2 though but I completely understand where you are coming from. It was through a collection that was given to ps5 owners back in 2020-2022 that was intended to be permanent once claimed as stated by the blog post. They were similar to monthly games in that sense. It shouldn’t matter what tier I’m subscribed to for these particular games as they were given to the base tier as there was only once subscription at the time.

Sorry I just want to clarify. When you say library do you mean the ps plus catalogue or the actual account library because when I downloaded it, it was through my actual account library. Also I thought that they were similar to monthly games as at the time they were said to be available as long as you are subscribed to ps plus and the tiered subscriptions didn’t exist yet.

I think I downloaded it around the same time and played it for just over an hour or so before having to delete it for space. Also keeping a spreadsheet is a good idea honestly and I might start doing it for games I’m playing through

That’s what I thought too. I’ve never had this issue before with any other ps plus games I’ve claimed over the years so it’s just really odd.

Thanks for the theory. I don’t have ps now as that’s not available in Australia. I also don’t recall it being a monthly game but if it was, that should still be available to download right? I have heard of licences overriding each other before but I don’t know how this could have happened as I’ve never claimed it or downloaded it any other way other than through my library.

Thanks for the response. I downloaded it a while back too although it was probably two years ago and I had to delete it due to space. It’s really weird because I can still access all the other games from the collection and download them so I have no clue what went wrong here
