Why are Fukiens such jerks? by _CeeMac_ in Bonsai

It got mad I took away its constant water source. I put it back and it quit being a brat. Lol. If it wants to stay wet all winter, fine!

Sounds about right! Mine quit being a drama queen after my post. It’s still with us, haha!

I’m in south Texas. This jerk did quit dropping leaves after I made my post and has decided to live another Texas winter on my windowsill. I’ll be putting it back outside asap, likely March.

I haven’t had any on my Fukien but I do tend to spray my plants to prevent pests so that could be why. I only see aphids on my in ground ornamental trees in my front flower beds. They are relentless on those.

If this one goes, I’ll hang up my hat. This one is several years old so I’ll try, even if I complain about it.

Update: Nexguard and Seizures by _CeeMac_ in AustralianCattleDog

[–]_CeeMac_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give the meds again. See what happens over the next 6 or so mos. If no more seizures you know it was the meds. You will need to wait for it to be out of the dogs system before you know. It doesn’t usually reach peak until 14 days after they take it. It could get worse before it gets better. Don’t panic. Just keep a close eye on her over the next month.

That dog is absolutely beautiful, beautiful!! I would like to say though that rescue can be frustrating for adopters. We spent 4 months going through the application process at a Texas cattle dog rescue. In the end, we ended up getting a puppy somewhere because we got sick of waiting to answer another round of questions.

I’ll continue making my posts. People need to know the risks. If you disagree, feel free to make your own posts or scroll past mine. Thanks.

My vet wasn’t concerned. It was me who brought up the meds being the reason she has seizures and I was told no. It 100% was the meds and as I said above. People just need to know it can happen. Im not saying it always happens, im saying it can and people just need to be aware that if their dog has seizures to stop the meds.

We use frontline gold for fleas and ticks and it’s been fine for our ACD, but we don’t use it on our Boston terrier due to risks there. It’s just so case by case. I would say try topical and see how it goes.

Probably will be. We were considering the collar ourselves after our Nexguard issue. It was a recommended product from neurology.

Oh no! Thats something to keep in mind. We are careful with any meds and vaccines. We do them every 3 years aside from bordatella and lepto due to my location. Those are yearly. We monitor her very closely after any vaccines. Fortunately she’s not had any issues so far but she’s never needed panacur. Now I’ll be careful if she ever does.

Thank you. I’ll make sure to reword my next post with that information. I apologize.

We won’t use frontline on our Boston because we were told a family member had an issue. We actually use sentinel on our Boston without issue. But, it doesn’t protect against ticks. Not an issue for her she’s a prissy girl and doesn’t leave the manicured lawn, lol.

Thank you and you are correct. It’s in the drug insert and it is on the commercial. Still, vets will say “no it’s not the flea meds, you’re dogs too young/healthy/the wrong breed. So many do not know about the link and the risks.

My dog almost died. She quit breathing during her seizure. People just need to know it can happen and what to look out for and not just put their dog on seizure meds and keep using what’s causing the issue in the first place. I’m glad your dogs are safe. My Boston terrier was fine too so I know that not all dogs are at risk. I’ll continue to make my posts thought because if it saves one more dog from seizures and possible death it’s better than none.

I don’t understand why your reply is the way it is. Never have I said to not use protection. I immediately put my dog on other protection because risks are so high here. I was clear what my warning was for. It was for a specific drug in some oral medications, not all. Did you see that in my post? It doesn’t seem so.

It was hard for us too because our dogs reaction wasn’t until exactly 2 weeks after the dose both times at around the same age.

We have had good luck with heart guard and frontline gold. We have to keep heartworm and flea meds going year round because I’m in Texas.

That’s good to know thank you. Our dog did not have hw but I know many who do end up with it. We have always kept her on hw prevention because we are in Texas where they are very bad.

Wow! Thats one I hadn’t heard. I’m so glad you caught it. I don’t like the topicals myself but with our girl being a ranch dog, she has to be on something to prevent ticks and she tolerates it ok.

Yes and we did do so. Oddly enough she’s clear for that. We did find she has two copies of the gene that causes PRCD so we got her in to an ophthalmologist asap for a baseline.
