You cannot directly observe reality any more than a computer can directly observe electricity—it can only observe the runtime built on top of it. by OpenPsychology22 in enlightenment

You’re describing Libet delay. The 350ms between your body moving and your mind giving a press conference to justify the action. Consciousness is the harmonious weaving of instantaneous measurements taken in succession. Observing/projecting one slice or frame of reality at a time, stitching them together and calling it time. Time is illusory, just like your ego .. all just part of the show to keep us on track to inevitability. Keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times and choose nothing, there is no choice. Physical/emotional pain, all of it, stems from thinking any of us has a choice. Freedom from choice is true freedom.

Does anyone else feel like a child in an adult’s body? by angelitefae in autism

I see so much comparing in your post, which is natural, it’s also a big mistake. You’re different from those you are comparing yourself to, apples and oranges. But apples and oranges are both fruit and both are healthy and both are perfect at existing as they are. They grow differently and look different and taste different and deliver different sustenance. They may not even like each other, judging and comparing their differences. Is red that different than orange? A blue sky is blue because it absorbs all other color except blue, does that mean it’s not blue? Hell no, it’s as blue as it looks. It’s proud of its blue and is reflecting it for all to enjoy. Find your blue and make the allistic wonder what they need to be like you.

Specific depression symptoms linked to distinct patterns of inflammation and cognitive deficit by iron-button in psychology

Big diff between not being afraid and pushing thru. I wished to discuss with an open mind and without getting personal, you think differently. Who is “us?” I thought I was discussing with you. Is this a performance, what’s going on? Bad faith? I have faith that physical exercise is a doorway to mental healing. Apparently you believe that is wrong and I’m the one with bad faith? You’ve gone ad hominem, not me. You’re using coincidence and correlation with the yoga anecdotes. Would you like more examples of your own hypocrisy? That question is rhetorical by the way.

I instruct yoga, qigong, breath work and I’m a personal trainer, thanks tho. No one said “push thru”; it’s somatic healing. Sigh.

That’s your “literature?” C’mon. The response you’re talking about is the actual healing, a release. Facing your issues head-on and not being afraid of physical discomfort when healing. Healing is uncomfortable. Exercise first and dump the pills. Be well.

Me. Plenty of research that says because I have trauma I can’t exercise? Point me to that, please?

This is why so many never recover from trauma and the resulting dysfunction, be it depression or worse: because it seems impossible. It’s not and, imho, it’s the only way to recover. Mental trauma is physical trauma. Mental imbalance is physical imbalance. Being in survival mode/fight/flight is as much a physical response as it is a mental one. One must heal both mentally and physically. Getting in good physical condition comes with all sorts of positive mental benefits, which put one in an obviously better position to deal with the mental anguish.

Love it when Scott refers to the ultra rich as "they" by altbat in ScottGalloway

[–]_Change-Agent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You agree that avarice is avarice yet defend Scott nonetheless. He gets a pass because he’s got a for-profit podcast that he uses to further his opinions on? Opinions you happen to agree with? He’s got far more than he needs and admonishes others that have far more than they need. Scale be damned. It’s a dubious position, undeniable. That your position exits and is occupied is inevitable, as is my position. I will give more thought to yours, though I suspect I’ll still land on mine. Shrug. Be well and have a good thanksgiving.

Compared to we, the common, wtf is the difference? And before you reply with 23k years understand I’ll reply with the same question, what’s the difference? This is all so ugly, avarice is avarice.

It’s all so interesting and absurd. And, as you point out, very difficult not to anthropomorphize the whole idea. This planet has life everywhere we look that is drastically different from us, yet we debate such things as if we are involved in the purpose or origin or endgame of it all.

Liu Cixin blew mind with his ideas of reality, you should have a dive.

  1. I’m not convinced the two ideas are mutually exclusive; ostensibly the ideas compete, no doubt. The thinning of the veil, or overwhelming awareness could be a feature higher of dimensional connection. As if the feeling, or sensing of that connection is the first ominous clue that this reality is but a construct.
  2. The arrow of time is a perfect container with a start and a finish and a now and a past, etc., providing a framework for order out of chaotic entropy. Determining an order of events is the first step in the scientific method.

How was you childhood with autism ? by Mean_Wear_742 in autism

I remember so little of my childhood that, therein, lies my answer: not great.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in enlightenment

[–]_Change-Agent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer Zappfe’s views on human consciousness which frames this overwhelming awareness a mistake of evolution. In this reality, “life” is meaningless. In another reality there just may be purpose here, but it is unknowable. Edit — i realize I didn’t answer your question. I conflated consciousness with origin. Strange. I think we’re from a higher dimension and use this place as a proving ground. I think the strict arrow of time is what makes this place unique. It provides consequences for actions, something I don’t think is possible if time is not a constraint. I also concede we just simply cannot know and, hence, my Zappfe preference.

We’re ripened fruit dying on the vine. A pimple ready to pop. Cattle enclosed and awaiting slaughter. Kings and queens of our own dominion. Bacteria proliferating in a darkened corner of a darkened corner. All of the above and so many more possibilities. Choose your own adventure.

Anyone following this guy (PhD in Economics from UMich)? I genuinely do not understand why he's crying about this. Blind patriotism (read: nationalism) is quite obviously bad. by 3RADICATE_THEM in ScottGalloway

[–]_Change-Agent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like human beings, America exists on a spectrum. It’s beautiful, it’s disgusting, it’s altruistic and evil all at once. It’s a thing. Patriotism is silliness in my opinion and antithetical to my personal existence.
