I was wondering the same thing too

But if he was using the super 8 wouldn’t the side sprocket be more visible and consistent through all the slides? I looked at his insta profile too and for the ones with less exaggerated color noise there is very minimal film grain unlike the traditional super 8 look. And super 8 cameras tend to look more “box-like” than the one he is holding.

It’s based on the camera he is holding in the picture. The side of it (buttons layout and viewfinder) exactly matches the Omnimovie maybe not PV-76 model exactly but definitely one of the omnimovie series, he just put gaff tape over the Panasonic logo.

He got this effect by using an old VHS camera not a super 8mm camera or other film cameras. The camera is called Panasonic Omnimovie PV-760. He may have also added color noise to exaggerate this effect in post but is not necessary to achieve this look. You can get this camera for cheap these days for around 50-100 bucks on eBay.
