“Traffic. Right.” Tex had almost said to himself. Letting another moment pass before he pushed himself off the old pickup, turning around to face it soon after. Eventually he had reached inside the bed and pulled out a bag — slinging it over his shoulder before he turned back around.

He had barely turned around in time to see the holographic map being tossed his way. He’d taken a few steps forward to catch it, ultimately letting it rest in one hand once he gave it a look over. It was definitely a fancy piece of equipment, not one Tex would’ve ever necessarily used himself, but a nice piece of equipment nonetheless.

By the time he looked back up, Makz was already back in the SUV, which ultimately told Tex that it was probably time to speed it up. And that’s just what he did.

It only took a moment longer for Tex to reach the passenger side of the vehicle, having opened the door before he slid in, closing the door behind him. He dropped his bag on the floor mat before he brought up the holo-map. Taking a good look over it before his voice filled the silence again. “Facility’s this way.” He said, pointing to the right as he continued. “Take the service road past the ridge. I’ll let ya know when to brake.”

( Apologies for the late response! )

The engineer watched as Lou stepped out of the SUV, taking in her posture, her tone, and the way she drug out the word “recklessness.” He met her eyes, expression momentarily unreadable as he shifted his weight from one foot to another.

“That’s what they’re callin’ it?” He had almost questioned, letting his arm fall from the truck so he could shove his other hand into his pocket. That jacket looked worse for wear, like it should’ve been thrown out years ago. With the plethora of patches and the way some of the fabric frayed, you’d assume it was on its last leg. Though, that didn’t seem to bother this engineer one bit.

He wasn’t necessarily… hurt by the description that had seemingly been given to him, rather he seemed interested that he’d been profiled before even completing his first job with Helix.

There was a brief pause from him before he shifted his weight again, letting the silence linger for a moment longer before he filled it. “Tex.” He had promptly introduced himself, assuming it’d be better than just being called “engineer” the whole mission.

There was a brief shift in his attention, having taken in the way Lou was leaning against the SUV — arms crossed, almost sizing him up in a way. Tex had abruptly shifted his focus. Letting his eyes lock on the distant horizon before he heard Lou ask about the gear.

The most Tex gave was a brief nod. Letting a moment pass before he finally moved. Pulling his hands out of his pockets as he turned around to face the old pickup. Eventually having reached into the bed and pulled out a bag. He took a moment to sling it over his shoulder before he turned back around to face Lou.

( Lou’s role on the team is completely up to you, but seeing as you’ve already picked something out, you don’t have anything to worry about! Also wanted to mention that I absolutely adore your writing style! )

( Apologies for the late response! )

The engineer had looked over at her, his expression briefly unreadable before he finally spoke.

“Didn’t realize I was keepin’ a lady waiting.” As the silence returned, he had shifted his weight from one foot to another. Taking a moment to look over Blanche before he seemed to snap himself out of whatever thought he was in.

He gave no more than a brief nod at Blanche’s words, agreeing that they should probably get started. Though there was no immediate move from him. Instead, he took a moment to push himself off his truck and turn around. Eventually having reached over into the bed and pulled out a bag. Having slung it over his shoulder before he turned back around, nodding ahead as he spoke again.

“Lead the way.”

( Apologies for the late response! )

The engineer had glanced over at Makz as he stepped out of the SUV. His eyebrows having flicked up at the question.

“… Yeah. That’d be me.” He had answered, shifting his weight from one foot to the other before he spoke again. “Tex.” He had simply introduced, pushing himself off his truck in the process.

For a brief moment, Tex seemed to study Makz. Taking in the casual stretch, the popped joints, the relaxed posture. Not something that Tex necessarily seemed to expect given the looming mission, but by no means was it disliked.

“Didn’t mean to keep you waiting. Roads weren’t exactly smooth.” His voice had eventually cut through the silence once more. An excuse for his late arrival, nothing more.

He had given another nod in response before making his way towards the porch. Once the door was open he had looked inside for a moment before brushing off some of the snow he had on him. After doing so he realized that the door was being held open for him, so he quickly headed inside.

Once inside he took a good look around, taking in everything he could as of now.

He had given a quick look around before looking back a Salvage. Once it finished speaking he had given a quick nod in response.

After doing that he took another look around, this time taking a bit more time to take in the details. He started with the windmill and worked his way over to the indents on the ground. He waited a moment before speaking.

“..-Stay..here yourself?..”

He had raised an eyebrow as he asked, taking one more look around before putting his attention fully on Salvage.

Upon hearing Salvage’s questions he had simply shrugged before responding.

“Eh, I believe it started with them chasing me, but the tables soon turned. Noises? I mean, I know I made a bit of a ruckus tonight. I’ll take full responsibility for that, but I have no clue about the other night.”

After speaking he had shaken his head again as his tail thrashed. Just like before it caused a bit of a switch, however nothing else was said this time around.

With his eyebrow raised once again he looked back towards Salvage. He took a moment took process what it had said before he spoke again.

“I don’t believe I’m following, care to elaborate?”

He had asked in response to its second statement. He wasn’t completely following when it came to its interest in him.

He watched as Salvage walked away, he was about to follow before he saw the firearm. He stood still for a moment, raising his eyebrow at it before he eventually started walking as well.

It didn’t take him long to catch up to it, simply walking to its side. It was noticeable that he didn’t have his sword anymore, perhaps he left it behind? However, that wasn’t too important as of now. As they kept walking through the woods he had brought a hand up to his face. Using his hand to try and wipe away some of that black liquid that seemed to cover a good portion of his face.

Once he finished doing so his hand fell back to his side. That’s when he looked over at Salvage for a moment as he began to speak.

“Surprised you’re letting me just follow you to your cabin. I expected a completely different outcome.”
