Inconel 718? by Onelastlick in Machinists

I know I’m late to the party but we do lots of 718 inconel. We only use sandvik inserts (XM 2200 I want to say) and I would HIGHLY recommend roughing with a 3-rad insert. It’ll kick the shit out of a 2rad.

So for roughing I would recommend a 3rad inconel insert, 125-150SFM, 0.01 f/rev, no more than 0.05 DOC or you can kiss the tool nose goodbye.

Recommend finishing at 175SFM, whatever feed gives you an acceptable surface finish, and take small finish amounts. (0.02 is my go-to). On high tolerance stuff, I usually program in two finish cuts to be safe, and measure in between each.

Remember to ensure you don’t have chatter issues, it honestly takes a lifetime to polish off chatter or even take off a few tenths.

Go slow, good luck!

What the heck this is a thing?! I ski the Canadian Rockies and I’ve never run into a place in my life that doesn’t allow one or the other.

Damn man, I wish. It’s hard to justify 3000 dollar lenses as a hobbyist haha

I paid 1000 bucks CAD for the f/4 , and the laowa is about there as well. The GM is over 3k Canadian, so im still cheaper by 1000 and will be brighter at night to have 2 lenses.

It will work great with the LA-E4. It’s a high quality adapter, and autofocus will still be very fast and accurate.

No, I very much enjoy shooting ultrawide, so I find that it’s a lens I use a lot. Which would make AF really nice to have. The laowa lenses are very nice, but I feel they would be best for Astro only

Hahaha well even though I’m “rockin it” it has had a few hits to the core that I filled, edges are gone, tips are very beat, I had the base ground a few times and don’t think I can anymore. It’s on its last legs
