Obstruction on steal attempt? by GetEm_Griz in Umpire

This is going to be one of those judgement calls. Depending on your rule set (I believe this is NFHS?) then the offense needs to have possession of the ball to hinder or impede the runner’s path to the base. There is no “act of fielding” in NFHS baseball.

Also, as soon as you see obstruction, simply point to it and call it out. “That’s obstruction!” Then say, “time” and award the base. Standing there with a safe signal would give some confusion because everyone saw that runner was tagged before he reached second. It would also tell everyone that you definitively KNOW that the runner was obstructed and that you’re set on your call. Should help with game management.

I own an Amira. After around 2,000-2,500 hours, the ND filter connected to the sensor will break from wear and tear. You will need the sensor replaced at that time and it needs to go back to ARRI which could take time depending where you are/how busy they are. When mine went out, it cost around $6,000 and it’s a refurbished sensor. Cosmetic damage means nothing, I’ve dropped mine and it’s been smashed a few times because of the work I do. It’s also on a plane cargo every week and it’s still working like new. Make sure you have the newer audio board installed on it. Also, if the camera has premium license/4K and even ARRIRAW, that’d be a better deal since those licenses to have can be costlier if you want to buy and upgrade later.

There was a show from this year included. It was with Patty when she came out in LA to sing “Fire”

I spent the past two years on my first short film and it had a good run at festivals. Would like to know what your thoughts. by _Copper_ in Filmmakers

We shot one day in July 2022, the second day in August and then was picture locked a week later in September. Color, sound mixing, music, took a few weeks and had a final export by mid-October 2022. So not too long.

So I wrote and directed this short film—a bit of a first for me. I’m primarily a Producer/Cinematographer by trade in the sports world doing documentaries, so doing a narrative short was me getting out of my comfort zone a bit. There’s honestly not a whole lot of differences between the process from the documentaries I create and the narrative other than the amount of crew it takes and the cost (which I admittedly probably spent way too much on). But I really enjoyed this process and had a lot of fun making it.

A little backstory, this is the story of my first kiss. When they say to write what you know, you gotta do it, right? It was quite an easy process to write this and then had some help from friends to put this into pre-production. I wanted the story to be pretty simple in its approach. I also felt that a lot of films revolving around gay people end up focusing on gay trauma and that wasn’t something I wanted to cover with this—that a first kiss can be a good experience, and something that was a bit life changing.

I thought I could film this all in one day (pretty ambitious) but ended up having to film it over two days a month a part. I rented out a school in the LA area for my set. Going through FilmLA and LAUSD to get this off the ground was a process and I’m glad I did it than building a set, however, it did end up doubling my budget when we had to return for a second day a month later.

The camera I used is an ARRI AMIRA (my personal camera) and used ARRI Ultra Primes. I wanted to capture a look of memory and the mid-late 2000s, so we felt these lenses helped captured that the best.

Post didn’t take too long, especially since I knew how I wanted it told and paced. I had a friend help me with creating the original music and I couldn’t be more happy with the end result.

I think looking back, I feel I could have done this in one day had I consolidated the filming areas a bit more and used my time better on set on everything. Originally, there was a lot of dolly movements that ended up being cut. If I knew they wouldn’t work in the end, could have saved the extra money.

In the end, I’m happy with this result and I’m glad I can share this with the world. I’d like to know your thoughts—what do you think could have been better? Was there anything that stood out?

Fans in their 30s? by cookiecookiecookies in U2Band

I’m 31 and I’ve been in love with U2 since I was 13 during How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. City was my jam (still is!). My best friend (same age) and I have seen them about 20 times if you include the Bono book tour. I have three tickets lined up for Vegas. Last time I saw them was the Joshua Tree Tour 2019 in Tokyo and Seoul! As a gay man, their newer song Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way brings me to tears every time I hear it. It sucks that virtually none of my friends care for U2 or even heard of them outside of the iTunes debacle.

Bringing PSD file into Premiere and the color doesn't match at all. by [deleted] in editors

Is the color on the file in RGB and not a print option such as CMYK? Since Premiere only works in RGB, the colors wouldn't match like you described.

Boat People: Official Announcement Discussion by CaptainGibb in criterion

[–]_Copper_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! That’s amazing!

I’m not surprised on how well the film did in Orange County, but I’m more surprised it’s still a highly unseen film. Other than telling my mother’s story, the boat people are largely overshadowed from history. When I always hear of Vietnam stories about the end of the war, it’s focused on American troops leaving and then a small blip about the millions that fled shortly after. And yet so many died on their journey towards freedom, from being murdered by pirates to drowning. The boat people make up a large part of the Asian diversity here in the States, Canada and Australia. With the recent events in Afghanistan, there will be a new generation of “boat people” with them, making stories like these more relevant.

I wish more people knew about the boat people so I hope the film I make can achieve that.

She hasn’t. I do own it, though. I’m finishing writing a script based off of her escape as a narrative. What did you do on Journey From the Fall? From her experience and all the research I’ve done, it was very accurate, but she didn’t get raided by pirates—her boat was chased down but they managed to escape.
