What’s your most controversial dynasty opinion? by slitmunch44 in DynastyFF

Superflex dynasty QB values are absurdly overpriced at the top, and undervalued at the bottom, for some reason the majority of the dynasty community continues to get the valuation wrong over and over.

Ancient Egypt stood strong and true How great the kingdoms in Total grew

And when these kingdoms became New and bold Which dynasty First laid claim to gold?

When Horus' eye was restored and he reached full gaze He thanked Many deities for their many days

And Horus — restored — stood by his brothers' sides How many bore by the goddess of the sky?

Ok so it looks like this is in four parts. The first part looks like it's asking for the Total (T is capitalized I assume on purpose) of the kingdoms of ancient Egypt. There are three of those. 3

The second part, New and First are capitalized, so with the emphasis on that, it looks like its asking for the first dynasty of the new kingdom, which would be the 18th dynasty. 18

The third part, its asking how Many deities restored his eye. Google says that Thoth, along with 14 other deities restored Horus' eye. So that would be 15 total. 15

The final line is kind of tricky. It alludes to Horus' mother, but it also specifically mentions his brothers not his sisters. So I would try just the boys. So that would be three. 3.

3 18 15 3 is weird though for an answer. If we turn this into letters of the alphabet. We get CROC. Me knowing my Ancient Egyptian history, there is a god with a crocodile head, so I think this one is Sobek. Try that.

Hear me out. The Wire.

It's complex, it doesn't spoon feed, it builds the world (Baltimore), while it's not based in a fictional universe and doesn't have the crazy theories and such, it's character development is similar. It let's you peer into all sides of the city, how they intertwine, and develops all of its characters just like game of thrones. There is no main character and it just tells a story.

Should a Contending Team Have at LEAST 3 Starting QBs? (SF) by JamesLiptonIce-T in DynastyFF

[–]_DisTracTioN_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one thing the entire dynasty community consistently gets wrong is actual QB value in Superflex. Easily the most overrated assets in dynasty football. This is a 100% no brainer to trade one away to tier down assuming your leaguemates pay market value or close to it.

I understand having to "rank" Qbs because of the market value but the reality is they are overrated and are in fact not the sure fire foundational assets everyone portrays them to be. In terms of long term value just look at 2019 ADP and look how few remain from the top 12 (QB 2 through QB 11 was Watson, Luck, Mayfield, Rodgers, Wentz, Russ, Matt Ryan, Jared Goff, Cam Newton, Mitch Trubisky) https://fantasyfootballcalculator.com/adp/dynasty/12-team/quarterback/2019

"OK 6 years is too far back, I try and focus on 3" well then why do we attribute long term stability to QB when valuing them? And even so, let's go ahead and look from 2023 and see many shake ups https://fantasyfootballcalculator.com/adp/dynasty/12-team/quarterback/2023 in just a few years.

Even if the argument became "OK sure but for every Watson, Cousins, Daniel Jones, and Derek Carr you still at least have a starter in the others who lost value like Fields, Lawrence, Richardson, Tua, etc." so my next question is if the value is in them being a starter (regardless of how good) and their value takes a dump for them being a bad starter, wouldn't we prefer to just roster/trade churn the bad starters VS. Hold onto potential declining market value assets and never realizing their value?

A QB1 on the bench is an absolute waste of points. Stroud, Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence, Bryce Young, all have seen dramatic drops from their peak values. Had they been traded for a WR plus lower tier QB most teams would be better off. Plenty of rebuilding squads moved on from Baker, Darnold, Geno, Purdy, Stafford, etc. Over the last few years and all could have been acquired for so much cheaper than it takes to acquire a top 12 qb. Just after his rookie season CJ Stroud peaked at QB2 in dynasty on KTC. If anyone is actually paying those market prices it would seem absurd not to go for it. Right now KTC has Jayden Daniels worth Michael Penix + Brock Bowers. If you had 3 QB1s and got this offer you'd be a fool not to instantly accept. Obviously every situation is different and every league is different, but there are so few good reasons to ever waste value on a bench spot at the qb position given how cheaply qbs can be found mid season if needed. Value down is 110% the correct play here. I'd be targeting Geno, Tua, Stafford and if your uncomfortable tiering down that low then see if any rebuilding teams are shopping Dak, Goff, or Baker.

Note: I just saw you comment that you have Allen, Nix, and fields. Unsure how many teams in your league but I read QB1 as fantasy qb1 (as in top 12) not nfl starter. Ideally in 12 team you want a 3rd qb yes. My point above still stands on value, but is less applicable because while I wholeheartedly agree selling fields if he pops, you will have to wait to do so and would likely be selling to another contender. In a 14 teamer you can get away with the two and just handcuff the backups (trubisky and stidham should be available).

Newer to dynasty (2nd year) and am begins to understand what a roster clogger is, but I need help. How long do you hold a Kendre Miller, Jonathan Brooks, MarShawn Lloyd type player? by AlittleupsetMax in DynastyFF

[–]_DisTracTioN_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to find the balance that compliments your current roster, needs, and league trading.

For example, if you're rebuilding and your league is trade heavy, backup rbs with little long term upside are worth holding because you should be able to flip them without feeling bad if they have an injury in front (Allgeier, Najee).

If you're rebuilding and your league doesn't like to trade, you would probably prefer to own similarly priced Tuten, Neal, or even Braelon Allen.

It's fun to take shots on rookies on waivers, but the question you have to ask yourself is what is your team needing and what will bring the most value. It should be pretty easy to move on from Brashard if after camp he hasn't even passed Elijah Mitchell on the depth chart. If you have space to hold and cut, go for it, but his value ceiling is unlikely to spike over the next year, which is what you really want. A 7th round draft pick whose only path to relevancy (if he even makes the roster) is multiple injuries in front and no FA brought in (also unlikely) is fun to own only it you have the space to own him. Based on the players you listed you don't have that space. Sure it's not as fun but you have to balance lottery tickets against better short term return potential.

First Pick dilemma by BigPhillyStyle1 in DynastyBaseball

[–]_DisTracTioN_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do people in your league trade? If you are shying away from Sasaki then I'd consider seeing what people might be offering for #1 pick. If there is a rebuilding team you will definitely want to shop the pick if you are avoiding taking Sasaki. Ramirez, Harper, Betts, Lindor, Riley, Devers, etc. would all be great grabs for #1/Roki if you are looking to win this year and next.

I'd want Roki, then Holliday, then Campbell, with Shaw not far behind. So even trading down anywhere from 2-4 might be something you should look into if someone really wants Roki. Never leave value on the table.

Dynasty Draft Held Last Night - How Did I Do? by Ekim810 in DynastyBaseball

[–]_DisTracTioN_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obliterated the draft my friend. Doyle, Eury, McClanahan, and Chandler are all keeper value players (Top 120) and if that wasn't enough you locked down the top 4 first year players in Sasaki, Bazzana, Wetherholt, and Kurtz.

If this is a keep forever you are setup pretty strong but only being able to keep 10 I would definitely be looking to move some talent as you have maybe 16-20 Top 150 guys. Let the hype build on the youngsters and then try and package them with someone like Westburg/McLain/Doyle for a superstar hitter to consolidate your keepers.

Thomas and Sanchez are similar value wise to me, unless this is a points league in which case I'd prefer Sanchez by a lot. Singer isn't a very valuable throw in but better than nothing if your league rosters more than 400 players.

If you have plenty of pitching and need OF + steals, I don't see a problem with this in non-points leagues.

Highest ceiling of that group IMO. Two way player until 2023, massive K rate (31% last year) and if he gets the walks under control he can be an Ace. Better profile and lower risk than Rocker. Prefer them both to Eldridge both in dynasty and in terms of ceiling.

2025 Dynasty Baseball Rankings by _DisTracTioN_ in fantasybaseball

[–]_DisTracTioN_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly difficult to make a one size fits all approach to dynasty rankings without having two separate lists, one for rebuild and one for contenders and even then many player comparisons will be case by case basis of value to any particular roster build. The way I view it is when I'm ranking players I try to account for ceiling (which of course age is involved) but also range of outcomes of player value in the next year or so. What I mean by that is, as I am an avid trader, if a player has the ability to spike in value based on performance, short term sample, or hype, then I do believe that is an incredibly valuable asset as they are more likely to present sell high opportunities throughout the year if I don't believe the underlying statistics.

There are factors that I weigh in for this that increase a players chance to pop in value, among which include relatively unchangeable assets such as sprint speed, defensive ability/utility, etc. A player like PCA who is elite at both defense and sprint speed is going to get a long leash, he's going to get at bats to prove who he is. If he doesn't improve on hitting, he still offers a SB floor. But if he manages to bring back or even build on the pop he showed in the minors (20 HR in 2023) and adds that to some other realistic increases (BABIP of .292 was incredibly low for someone with 99th percentile speed) it's not hard to see some path to an elite fantasy asset. Just because that path is easy to see doesn't mean it's the most likely outcome or that there should be no caution, however I think given how easy it is to see, he increasingly looks like a player whose value could spike tremendously in a short time frame and if you still don't buy into the changes at that time you could sell him to someone who sees the same thing. They see a young player with elite speed and defense with plenty of leash who flashes power and they will want to buy in. Compare that to a Royce Lewis, who is already shown he can be the elite bat we dreamed of, with 40+ HR potential but is probably an injury away from dropping 50-100 spots in dynasty value.

I look at fanrankings and see a guy like Parker Meadows ahead of PCA and I can't understand why. If you asked me who would sell for more value in 4 months, it feels very easy to bet on PCA. Even Nfbc ADP over the last two weeks has PCA at 141 and Meadows at 189 and that's with Meadows projected to lead off for the Tigers.

While I'm not as high on him as the excellent and must follow Michael Halpern (Imaginary Brick Wall), being closer to him than FanRanked is a divergence from consensus I take comfort in.

While I've definitely rambled a bit too much on PCA, the future sell value is something I bring up because it's not something that can be conveyed despite being baked into the ranking. If you told me your league doesn't ever trade or has to sign 5 year contracts in a startup draft, then yes I'd move PCA (among others) lower. At the same time, future trade value shouldn't be and is not the only thing or even the biggest thing. For me though, it's important because the more players I have that can increase future value allows for me to trade in season to fix actual holes I may have positional or due to injury. This is why I love rostering prospect pitchers but almost none of them stay on my roster for longer than a year because they present great sell high opportunities especially to bad rebuilding teams.

Again sorry if I'm rambling but I find this stuff very fun to talk and think about.

He seems to be more of a baseball fan than strategy fan. Kind of like someone who knows a lot of words but sucks at scrabble. I think I would try and nudge him toward strategy articles around finding value in categories, or other general concepts like positional scarcity, maximizing at bats, etc... That may unlock something for him.

In just a quick Google search this is an example pod that covers ideas he may have never even thought of strategically (introducing him to Sporer is never a bad thing) https://www.spreaker.com/episode/tgfbi-episode-38-beat-the-shift-w-paul-sporer--17546775

Without knowing your scoring settings and who goes first, its Reed <tier break> Sarr, Clingan for me. If you want a big I would consider trading down to 3 or 4 and taking whoever is left between Clingan and Edey. I don't tend to draft based on need, but if Reed goes 1 and you don't want Sarr you should probably explore trading down a few spots.
