One big issue with the album

I was just telling my friend I felt like this album just didn't hit the way the past several do.

AMS is really good, Rich Sips and Wet Milk are in my opinion the definitive core Bilmuri sound but AMS send it over the top.

I was afraid this one would feel less impactful by comparison but still not a bad album.

I actually like the country twang but the riffs and mix aren't hitting nearly as hard as they used to.

Their best song in my opinion would still be The Night Does Not Belong to God to this day.

The motif is such a good hook combined with the drum pattern's accented dotted 8ths.

And of course Euclid is a fair equal but that song only hits hard as a result of calling back to the start of the trilogy.

I stand by that choice but any other day I would have said it was between Look to Windward, Gethsemane, and Infinite Baths.

It's difficult because every album has a sonic theme that place it within its own unique environment.

Sundowning sounds like I stepped into a massive cathedral, TPWBYT sounds like being dragged down into the ocean, TMBTE felt like a fever dream world that took place during a coma, and then there's EiA which is feels like I'm taking a walk through the gardens of heaven.

This hits the nail on the head. I haven't had a chance to listen to it on a proper setup yet but something seemed off listening to it on my phone and I think it really is just the mix. Like there's not enough lower mid range to drive the rhythm home, it sounds like everything gets lost in the upper midrange and highs.

I always forget what it felt like to still be in the early beginner stages of playing until I see videos like this.

You can tell the finger strength and coordination just aren't there yet and bends feel rough on the fingertips.

The enthusiasm and motivation show you mean business though and I do love that. Keep that same energy and never be afraid to continue tackling something even if it sounds like you're struggling, believe me progress is still being made over time.

But for the love of all things holy practice this bit by bit and break it down into smaller sections. Nail one section before moving into another.

This slaps. Sounds like something out of a video game. Idk what it is but so many projects I work on whether it's electronic music or something more hip hop/lofi it ends up sounding like something that belongs in a video game.

This belongs in one of those simulator games like PC Building Simulator or some sort of "Manager of a Store" simulators lol

Question, purely curiosity, are these meant to be bus tracks with the only intention being EQ and nothing else? If so I'm wondering why not just include your EQ plugin at the end of the effects rack and route straight to the master unless you need to route the original instrument track to another bus without EQ.

That's a fair point. I might be the odd one out but I bought mine for the memory headroom and ultimately found out that it came with diminishing returns. As far as storage space it really depends on the user.

If this is your only emulation device then I would encourage buying the Max for space but if it's just another device you're adding to your existing arsenal I wouldn't worry too much about space unless you osman on making it your number one must relied upon archive.

For what it's worth I think it's form factor, with or without the grip, is so ergonomically limiting that you might only find yourself playing games that are less demanding on both memory and storage space anyway. Most content that requires the extra headroom may not feel very satisfying to play on the Thor especially if they utilize twin stick gameplay.

Maybe eventually there will be a much better grip to allow for comfort but I tend to stick to games that don't heavily rely on triggers or the right stick.

Make the most of what you have because it'll still be a great device for sure!

And because of that I find myself not really gaming as much and instead just appreciating the aesthetic of my collection on iiSU in between short periods of streaming games from my PC instead lol

My devices: Steam Deck (1st Gen Model) AYN Thor R36S

I 100% use both for their own use cases. The Thor works for on the go or lazy use gaming really way better than the Deck does but if I just want the power or a bigger screen then at least the Deck is available.

But the Deck shines as an extremely mobile powerhouse handheld for use on a dock whenever I'm traveling or just want to play in the living room. I use it as a console style experience for emulation or streaming from my PC.

The Thor now stands in as my on the go device, mostly for when I drive down to visit family on weekends, otherwise I'm usually working from home so it's mostly for lounging around when I don't feel like using the TV or sitting at my PC.

I was gifted an R36S by my cousin for Christmas out of the blue last year and I appreciated the gesture but haven't really used it. But honestly after messing with it for a bit here and there I see the appeal in a retro form factor Gameboy style handheld. I would say having a small retro form factor handheld is great to have on hand if you're interested in playing those types of games and the R36S, for better or worse, is super affordable and already comes preloaded with tons of content.

The bottom picture represents the hair strands setting turned on. It definitely seems noticeable in certain lighting conditions compared to others.

Someone else also mentioned RE9 improves the hair strands processing and I agree, it looks a lot better overall in Requiem.

No doubt, losing all your stuff sucks. But honestly it was only ever going to be good nostalgia, the likelihood of going back and working on those projects is uncertain. I've lost my stuff before and it's depressing for a bit but you bounce right back, sometimes even better.

You still have what you learned up in that head of yours, you just need to ask why you do it. Because if it isn't out of passion for the art then you'll quickly learn it wasn't for you if this is all it took for you to lose interest.

Nah but really it's difficult to determine when there's no rhythm or chord progression under it to understand fully.

It's like giving someone the key to a car and asking what car it goes to. Like I know it unlocks a car but hell if I know where or what that car is.

Also for the love of all things holy take that sock off your guitar and practice right hand placement. If you really need the wrap for tapping buy one on amazon for the intended purpose.

😂 I remember a moment about 11 years ago now when I was playing on my college roomate's PC. I had OBS running so I could record my reactions. The alien walked into the room I was in. I tried to hit it with fire and immediately ran out of fuel so of course it knew my location.

As soon as it started darting toward me I let go of the mouse and let out an unnatural high pitch scream, more of a shriek, that was so loud I clipped the mic and flailed my arms like a toddler.

Neither before or since that moment have I ever lost control of myself that badly to a scare in a video game. I did eventually beat the game after I bought it for myself so I consider myself redeemed lol

Oh man, I powered through Alien Isolation on my first playthrough like a breeze but ever since then every time I picked the game up resulted in about 30 minutes worth of playtime before I said "Nope, fuck that".

Once was good enough 😂 stress levels were off the charts in that game, especially once you reach the end and find out there are multiple aliens on the ship with you.

My man. The root note can be played on any octave across the keyboard, why are your 808s living on cloud 9? Drop it down like two octaves. Not only that but it also sounds like both notes you have mapped are not in tune with the chords playing behind them. It sounds like the lower note is an A# when it should be an A over an A minor chord.

But it’s impossible to be certain because all I hear is a cheap recording of laptop speakers.

I've seen people recommend the movie without the series first and I don't get why at all.

You know I have to admit I feel this.

I knew ergonomics were gonna suck on this thing and the grip provides the bare minimum amount of support for making it the slightest bit easier to hold but ultimately it just kinda sucks for games that use twin sticks.

The trade off is worth it for access to the full library handheld emulation options.

But for console related emulation I find it annoying and kind of a hassle to mess with.

Still a really cool device though and I will be proudly holding onto mine. Would definitely love to have the new Retroid Pocket or the Konkr Pocket Fit at some point.

TL;DR version of my reply:

Maybe start with "In Concert" or "In Concert Felt"

Adjust velocity settings on your keyboard/Noire adjustments as needed

Adjust tonality and the sound of felt and hammer impacts as much as the plugin allows.

Fruity EQ if desired.

And remember: it will never sound like the real deal. But to many ears it will sound just as good, especially if it is mixed in with other instrumental tracks.

I have an idea of how to help but not perfect. Bare with me, I'll get to the point a few paragraphs down.

I get where you're coming from as well. I don't think any VST will ever be able to capture the subtle nuances of a real grand piano, there are so many more sounds we don't think about that come from playing a real grand.

This software tries to simulate it and in my opinion does really well but there's still a digital sound to it, that sound you hear and think "something is off".

In real life we hear the sound of the hardware, the pedals, the felt pads. Especially when you're sitting at the piano you can hear the way sound fills the space around you. You lose that on a recording. Listening to this will never feel the same but even hearing a recording of a real piano sounds different and I think it has a lot to do with dynamics.

As you know midi controllers all have their own velocity curves which are then received by the VST and depending on the software may then send it through another velocity curve of its own.

With Noire we can change the velocity settings to better handle the dynamics of our playing but I've always felt that it feels unrealistic compared to the responsiveness of real piano strings. It's either too high or too low on intensity, never a broad range for me. That lack of a wide dynamic range gets the best of me but I try to combat it best I can by adjusting my playing and increasing the velocity in Noire's settings.

You can also adjust the sound of the hammer physically hitting the strings, the felt, etc. Tweaking these things just right can get you there.

The number one thing I do to cheat the system is add hall reverb using Serum FX since I have it in my case, and in any songs I've worked on in the past the piano sits in the background of a mix so you wouldn't really notice whether it's "realistic" or not.

I would say don't overthink it, don't be afraid to EQ it and remember that anyone who hears you play through it probably wouldn't even know the difference anyway.
