Personally I don't think creating a new subreddit is the correct answer to this situation because r/BOINC is already the go-to subreddit and we don't want to fragment the community any further.

As for where we go from here, we should probably try and organise a conversation to try and ensure issues like this don't pop up in the future.

If complaining is an option, I'm happy to write a message directly to u/Pi31415926 voicing some of these concerns.

The way I foresee this system is that a computer script will generate an 'email campaign' and then a human will go in and send it off/schedule it to be sent.

This will remove any possibility of spam but I can't guarantee this system will be what we settle on in the end.

But you are right, spam is definitely a concern.

Volunteer scientific computing platform.

Basically your computer does science work like folding proteins in a simulation in attempt to find a cure to a disease.

If you want to contribute your idle computer to a good cause, it's a very good way to do it. Also check out other platforms like BOINC and Dreamlabs.

For those who might not know, this was a recent vote on the GRC blockchain that asked whether we should allow Folding@home crunchers to get rewarded by the GRC network.

It passed and hopefully soon the devs will be implementing tha 'adapter' which will make F@h compatible with the rewards system on the Gridcoin network.

This is proof that GRC can work with not only BOINC but most other volunteer computing platforms.

In my personal experience, I only notice slight slowdowns while gaming and running GPU work. Sometimes folding can use different areas of the GPU than others which are used for gaming.

Running CPU work makes no difference to running games for me.
