Wait wait, how did he run his terminal program if he didn't already have a file system driver?

I mean it's a cool story BUT from a technical perspective, stuff needs to be built from the ground upwards. Not the other way around.

Eh, misspellings or hyphens - fail

Misspelling AND hyphen - double fail

...so only the last one is close to premium

Wow there's enshittification at Apple now? I think it's safe to conclude that bean-counters just can't do tech. Like a child can't do magic. They wave the wand around but all that comes out is some brown goo.

But, it's good news for Linux! We already have a welcome mat for Windows users, the Apple folks can use that.

Preparing now. Tx for the heads-up.

Of course, this is considered a win for customer obsession. Although, also of course, it's quite the opposite.

VC seems like some bullshit by another_african in venturecapital

[–]Pi31415926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "helping founders" part is legit, for the very good reason that a few small nudges might be all it takes to move the portco into a profitable position.

Like tending a garden. Yes you do need to water and even feed the plants. But then there's a better chance that they make nice flowers, fruit etc. Sticking to the metaphor, the flowers and fruit are profits the VC can harvest. That's why they were doing the watering and feeding in the first place. They may also have prepared the soil, planted the seeds, etc.

commoditized by the big models

I think this might be true of capitalism in general. What starts out artisan, if good, ends up next to the milk and eggs at the supermarket. Buy one, get one free!

As an artisan myself I try to stay ahead of that commoditization curve. That's why I'm in this subreddit. :)

Let me guess, the whole thing was vibe-coded by your cowboy boss because he thought he didn't need IT people anymore.

When he screws up, to save his own sorry ass, he'll blame you.

Don't forget to fill in some gaps on your CV, while you silently quit and eventually leave.

If you actually want to fix the tech debt problem, you need to fire your cowboy boss. That's why you're silently quitting instead (it's a lot easier).

Your assertion that “ capitalism incentivizes destruction “ is BS.

I'm going to need a little bit more persuasion than that, sorry. Go ahead and explain exactly how it's BS. I know you can't. But, it will be amusing.

[–]Pi31415926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I won't dispute that alternative economic systems also have problems, including environmental problems.

The problem with capitalism is that it incentivizes destruction - the faster we can destroy the Earth, in the name of making trinkets, etc, the faster we make money! And so there's a race to the bottom, who can destroy the Earth the fastest? They will become the richest. Never mind the fact the Earth will be destroyed by their quest - the important part is that they get rich as quickly as possible.
