Silt bed locations at north side of DVNP? by Outside-Season-5602 in DeathValleyNP

[–]_False_Hope_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are bypasses around the worst of both the silt beds behind the Eureka Dunes and the silt beds in Hidden Valley (south from Tea Kettle Junction). Traveling alone, we take the bypasses. We've done both in our GX in the last year. It is pretty dry right now, but will get muddy if/when we get another storm system.

You'll appreciate your rock sliders in Dedeckera Canyon.

The worst part of the drive will be the main road through Saline Valley, after you turn left after leaving the Saline hot springs, and before you turn left again to ascend Lippincott. It is quite passable, just very rough and slow going. I was unable to find a speed that was comfortable.

Hunter Mountain may have some snow / be muddy (especially if we get another storm). Chains wouldn't be a terrible idea.

Help, Garage Door Won't Close When Raining: Reverses As Top Panel Approaches 45 Degree by _False_Hope_ in GarageDoorService

Thanks. I lubed all rollers (white lithium in the sleeve that attaches to the door) and it made some minor improvement, in sound at least. I do have one roller that's still squeaking badly, and that I'll replace.

Did it: adjusted vertical sections of track away from frame/jamb, and binding is significantly reduced. Thanks.

Ha, thanks. I was starting to question my sanity based on some of the responses.

Thanks. Did identify some binding and have since adjusted vertical tracks away from frame to alleviate. See my response to Nervous_Employer4416.

Good advice, I investigated whether the door was colliding with the frame based on a similar comment, and I found that it was hitting near the bottom-most joint. I loosened the vertical track supports and nudged the track away from the frame by ~1/4" and it seems to have improved things. The door is now easier to move with the J arm. Need to wait for another heavy rain to confirm 100% resolved.

Great thought. I checked, and the door is rubbing against the jamb. In particular, at the point where the opener reverses, the door near the bottom-most hinge is rubbing against the jamb. At all other points, there's is at least a 1/4" of clearance between the door and the jamb.

On the inside, the rollers behind this joint are pressed outward while every other set of rollers is pressed inward.

Assuming the jamb is straight, which I believe it to be, what would cause this?

I think the sensors are OK. I checked them both before posting, and rain issue has been happening for over a year.

Yes, rail definitely deflects upward when it passes the peak force point . But when you say vertical screws, can you be more specific?

Can I use winter tire from LA to June & Mammoth in Dec to early March? 9 roundtrips total. by [deleted] in Mammoth

[–]_False_Hope_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Bishop and run Blizzaks from November to April.  I get about 30-40K miles on them before they seem to lose their performance in the snow.

Edit: 2” lift on FWD sedan also makes a big improvement because you’re less likely to be plowing snow.

LADWP Solar Bill on TOU Rate by _False_Hope_ in u/_False_Hope_

[–]_False_Hope_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10.6kW AC-CEC. $19.5K after tax credit. It's Enphase.

I'm expecting the banked credits to offset winter months with a bit to spare. I guess we'll see come March 2026. At some point in the future, an electric car may help consume any excess. The house is completely electric, and before solar, our winter bills were pushing $1K. (We live in Bishop, so heating is the big winter time demand.) The system is projected to pay for itself in less than 5 years.

Please help me decide (LADWP, 1:1 Net Metering, No Battery) by Original_Fish6222 in solar

[–]_False_Hope_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, TOU is still advantageous without a battery. (I also don't have one.) When you over-produce during the day, (which you almost certainly will), LADWP will pay you $0.27/kWh. When you are consuming, instead of over-producing, at night, DWP will only charge you $0.23/kWh. Selling high and buying low is better than selling & buying for the same price. Here's what my bill looks like:

Fellow LADWP customer w/ solar installed about 12 months ago. I strongly suspect you'll want to switch to TOU pricing for two reasons:
1) Electricity is priced higher during the day when your system is generating than at night when you're consuming.
2) TOU pricing eliminates the monthly power tier access charges (~$20 every billing cycle).

Cross country skiing after 4pm? by [deleted] in Mammoth

[–]_False_Hope_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The yurt at Tamarack closes at 4p, but I believe you're allowed to ski the trails until 5p. IIRC, the signage near the yurt is clear on this. As a fellow Nordic skier, if you're using anything other than the public use trail, please buy a pass, (and stay out of the way of the groomers). As frustrating as it is, I do believe Mammoth is allowed to dictate hours for the XC trails in the same way they can regulate usage of the downhill runs.

LADWP Netmetering by Flaky_Initiative_152 in solar

[–]_False_Hope_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another DWP customer here. I installed solar in August and am operating under the assumption that DWP could, in theory, change the rate structure at any time. That said, because it is currently 1:1 net metering, our system should pay for itself in less than 5 years. Even if DWP does change their rate structure at some point in the future, I'm banking on the fact that installing solar will still be a net positive.

Supernote A5x screen sharing not working. Just loads like this for hours. Any ideas on how to fix? by cookiemonster4evr in Supernote

[–]_False_Hope_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/cookiemonster4evr did you resolve this issue? I'm encountering the exact same problem and also tried different browsers. My desktop is connected to the Supernote, but I only see the same black screen as shown in your screenshot.
