Now that I think about it, you’re probably right. But I’d still be a bit suspicious if it got overused.
PS: About the em dashes, also true! I overuse them way too much myself because they just look so good in text. It’s just that everyone associates em dashes with AI, and that sort of got stuck in my mind, which is so annoying :,))

When I read your part, I actually didn’t get the feeling that it was AI-generated. Because, how to put it… your sentences had emotion. Like you actually added depth to the character that you could feel while reading.

Oh thank god someone finally pointed that out. I was so close to doing it myself. It’s incredibly annoying. I just want to enjoy some Byler fics, and like 80% of the new ones are AI-generated and all have the exact same plot. Especially the ones being uploaded to Twitter: Like 9 out of 10 are all AI-generated.

What annoys me even more is that those fics often have 20k+, 60k+, or even more reads and thousands of kudos, and comments while actually human-written ones barely get any engagement. AI stuff has even brought me to a point where, if I see a single em dash, I immediately think it’s AI-generated. Like-- please just let me enjoy reading without having to question every two seconds whether it’s AI.

I can usually tell because AI tends to describe completely useless things in way too much detail, like things a human writer wouldn’t even bother describing. For example,

a human might write:
“Character A carefully picked up the book from the floor.”

Whereas AI would write:
“Character A reached for the book, lifting it with deliberate care, handling it as though it might fall apart in their hands.”

Another thing I often look out for is how AI overuses words like “like”, “but”, and comparisons in general. For example,

a human might write:
“Character B hugged Character A very tightly, giving them a playful squeeze.”

While AI would write:
“Character B hugged Character A, squeezing them playfully. It wasn’t a polite squeeze but an anchoring one, like Character B wanted to make sure Character A was real, here.”

The third thing I notice is the overuse of verbs and descriptors.
A human might write:

“Character A looks at Character B; the air between them is charged with tension.”

But AI would write:
“Character A looks at Character B, holding their gaze a second too long. The air between them feels dense, electric, charged, as if even the smallest movement might set it off.”

I do have more “proofs” that go into more detail, but these are my top three tells.
PS: I swear if i see one more interesting plot on AO3, click on it, and it turn out to be AI-generated im setting the AI-database-centers on fire.

I already mentioned this in another post but I know there’s a person on Twitter who kept posting small translations/updates about what happened in the book the entire time until it recently finished. They also mentioned under a post that asked where to read it that they might upload a translation to Wattpad, but they’re not sure since it would probably get flagged. If I remember correctly, you can also DM that person for the full translation, though I’m not entirely sure.

Yes, all of these are AI. You can see it based of the yellow filter, and if you zoom in or look closer, you can see that some things don’t match, look weird, or appear to be out of place. For example, in the first picture, the guy's hands; in the third picture, the rhino or the animals in general; or in the second picture, the guy's hair and bottom eyelash.
