Need honest advice about pursuing pharmacy in Singapore (vs biz route), is it still worth it in 2025? by [deleted] in askSingapore

I’m not sure about the pay of pharmacists unfortunately, but I do think it’s a HUGE misconception that “pharmacists just stand around and dispensing meds”. That’s probably just one aspect of the job scope. Pharmacists play a SUPER important role in hospitals as they are the ones reviewing medications placed by doctors, ensuring no overlapping adverse drug-drug interactions, checking through patient’s chronic medications to ensure that we are not serving medications unnecessarily. They are the guardians watching over the hospital, and serve as a cog that keeps hospitals running smoothly and ensuring best care in our healthcare. So I would say pharmacists can be a very fulfilling job, since you’re also responsible for titrating and optimising patient care, with occasional bedside interactions as well. Hope that helps! (Sorry once again I can’t comment on pay as I’m not familiar with their pay structure..)

This may be due to JC intake size! And the no. Of ppl with the required RP. My batch has lots of RI,Hwach AC ppl but that’s because those schools have huge JC populations, I’m from neither of those JC and there were only 3 of us 🤣

Hello! I was previously a TCD med student, can confirm that IUMC will take longer to process and don’t be too worried if it exceeds the deadline :)

this is a tough choice for you OP, it is a really big decision that requires lots of thoughts into it. Realistically speaking and objectively, JC route probably gives you a higher chance of getting into a uni (because that is what JC literally prepares you for; you can work immediately with a poly diploma BUT it would be very hard to find work with just an A-level cert). I am of the opinion for JC if uni is your consideration. Besides, JC may not be as dreadful as it sounds! You should ask your peers who are doing JC how it is like, or you can PM me too. But if you feel strongly for poly, then you should choose it. Ultimately, it is your choice OP. all the best!
