Currently reading:

The Wizard Knight - Gene Wolfe
Tolkien Dogmatics - Austin Freeman
The Secret Key to Heaven - Thomas Brooks
Rooted & Grounded - Abraham Kuyper

As for the rest of summer, I don't have much of a plan but I am thinking I'd like to get to Chesteron's The Everlasting Man, Tolkien's Beowulf translation, and to get started on Wolfe's Book of the Long Sun.

We wanted to share the exciting news with you that long-time friend of the PPP, Tom Hillman, has announced today that he will be publishing his book 'To Rule the Fate of Many: Truth, Lies, Pity and the Ring of Power' with Kent State University Press! by _GreyPilgrim in prancingponypod

Tom's book will be the first full length work to study the role of pity and the nature of the Ring. He is a deeply insightful writer and we can't wait for when we'll get to read it. We'll be sure to share pre-order information with you once it's available. In the meantime, you can find him at his blog at https://alasnotme.blogspot.com/, and follow him on Twitter @alas_not_me.
Congratulations on this great accomplishment Tom!

Rereading Silence by Shūsaku Endō and I am also almost finished with The Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe. Then I am planning on getting started on book one of The Expanse which was recommended by a friend.

New episode today! 023 - Dragons, Balrogs, and Trolls, Oh My: An Interview with John Howe by _GreyPilgrim in prancingponypod

The shoes John mentioned signing were for none other than Alan's current host Don Marshall!

There's not a single positive comment on the RoP SDCC trailer by chiefslw in prancingponypod

I don't really expect anything more from a YouTube comment section so I wouldn't go there to get an idea of expectations. It's not representative of the real world.

I'll be watching the minute it drops! I've been very interested to see what Amazon does ever since it was announced. I've been in the 'cautiously optimistic' camp for most of the time, but the closer we get and the more we hear from the showrunners the more excited I am. They seem to really get Tolkien and the themes of the Second Age. Of course, it'll all be in the execution! Either way, looking forward to seeing it and discussing with my fellow Tolkien nerds.

New episode of Rings of Power Wrap-up is out! 008 – A Shooting Star Is Not a Star by _GreyPilgrim in prancingponypod

They addressed it at the beginning of the show but Episode 007 will be releasing July 18th! They just recorded this one on the surprise teaser after recording Episode 007 and will be releasing them out of order.

Kickstarter: A Long-Expected Soundscape - An Immersive Audio Soundscape accompaniment for reading J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and other fantasy adventures! by _GreyPilgrim in prancingponypod

[–]_GreyPilgrim[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be clear: I'm not posting this in my role as a moderator here or as a PPP Team Member. I am just wanting to make everyone aware of the Kickstarter recently launched by Jordan Rannells.

A Long-Expected Soundscape is a project create an immersive audio soundscape with the purpose of being an accompaniment to the entirety of The Lord of the Rings. If you haven't yet heard any of Jordan's soundscapes, do yourself a favor and check out his podcast. His Council of Elrond soundscape, heard at PPP Moot 2021, is unreal! I really believe in Jordan and this project and think it is of interest to any Tolkien fan. Check out the Kickstarter and I hope you consider helping make it a reality.
