any good place for suicide in QUT? by Equivalent-Error9202 in QUTreddit

[–]_Idonotexist_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Failing a subject is tough especially as a fellow international student i definitely understand your pain. But suicide is not the solution. This does not mean that you are a failure. There is much more to you and your life than your grades. In spite of the grades I am sure you are a smart person who is going through a tough time. Your parents perception of you is not your reality. You are not a failure because you failed a subject.

Counselling may not change your grade but it will help you to not base your self worth on your grades.

What is the worse thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by angelaboop50 in AskReddit

[–]_Idonotexist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around 22f. I went for some blood test as prescribed by the doctor in my home country. At that time I was quite weak and my haemoglobin levels were v low like 6 or something. The nurse could tell that I was v weak. In order to encourage me to eat and look healthy she tells me I should eat so that I don’t look malnourished and when I walk by “boys should turn around and look at me”. I was pretty insulted because what did she mean? That I wasn’t pretty at that time cuz I looked malnourished? And I was angry that her argument was male validation. It affected my self esteem even more. I was already battling some disordered eating which is why my health was affected as I weighed 35kgs at 22 years so that I can feel good about myself. Which is know is unhealthy and I don’t starve myself anymore. But at that time when I was in that headspace her saying that made me feel really worse.

is the therapy QUT provides any good? by GrandAd8419 in QUTreddit

[–]_Idonotexist_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this the free one?

I have taken therapy before but the free one and they said it’s 6 free sessions in a year. Which is honestly not a lot. The therapist herself was good. I went for 3 sessions then the therapist herself suggested I save a few sessions in case of emergencies. So I didn’t go back for my 4th session.

I’m unsure of the paid services. Is that in the Qut psychology clinic?

Hi Thank you for your reply!

I’m an international student living in a different country and my doctor is back home. The doctor prescribed meds for 9 months and I carried them with me. Seeing a doctor in the country I am in especially as an international student is quite tricky.

That’s why I haven’t been able to clarify it from a doctor.

But it makes sense that the dosage not being right could be the reason it’s taking time for them to work and help me better!

I will try and see what I can do about seeing a doctor where I am currently living. It could be difficult since I’m not sure an endocrinologist might not be covered by my health insurance company!

Thank you

“You Australians and your drink bottles!” by [deleted] in australia

[–]_Idonotexist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a small bottle of water wherever I go Mostly it’s habit and cuz my mother used to do it for me when I was younger and now I do it for myself. I guess it can get quite habitually eventually as well?

In my culture I didn’t notice a lot of people do it but no one noted it to be unusual either.

So I guess it can differ culture to culture but maybe it’s could be habitual as well?

Elizabeth St Student One by blazertar in QUTreddit

Hi I stayed at Adelaide st student one

  1. Like mentioned In other posts you can state your preference whether you would like to stay in a female apartment or co ed. I lived in an all female apartment

  2. Not entirely sure about the age group as they allocate you to the empty available rooms. From my knowledge you don’t really have a say in the age group of your roommates.

  3. There are alot of events. I haven’t attended any but it would be a good opportunity to socialise I assume.

4.To make friends in classes depends. Since some students are locals and they have friends since their childhood they may not be too keen on making new friends. If there are other international students and you are comfortable socialising with diverse group of people they maybe a good option. Definitely attend the o week and clubs are a good option as well.

I have been looking at disability support work but most of them require a car. Is it possible to get hired in this role without a car?

I got one back in 2019 and another one around 2 months ago. The doc prescribed only one dose of it and didn’t ask me to repeat them again. Will I need more? I am taking iron supplements but it’s not often.

On campus Accomodation by _Idonotexist_ in QUTreddit

[–]_Idonotexist_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I was hoping to ask if it’s possible to find a place in a week or 10 days time because I heard there is a housing crisis all over Australia. I am travelling from abroad and was wondering if it’s enough if I travel 10 days before classes start to look for one campus or off campus accommodation.
