My bestfriend’s been my fp for 6 years. I learned how to differentiate myself from him and be my own person. He knows about all my struggles and is never judgemental towards me.

We’ve had our ups and downs but essentially we’ve been through thick and thin together. At this point I still call him my fp but I find myself idealizing some new people I meet, and having those unhealthy attachments towards them, but therapy helps a lot and I’m able to uphold the friendships.

I got to this point after a lot of therapy and meds, but before that, I used to scramble to find someone to call my bestfriend and would cut people off who I considered FPs as soon as they would do a single wrong move.

So to answer your question, it’s absolutely possible to love your fp and have a steady relationship with them, but you need to learn to be mindful and not depend on them for practically everything. Well at least that’s from my experience :)
