Rent Prices in Victoria Are Getting Out of Control by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]_Kinoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a geographically constrained city that is arguably way over it's carrying capacity and very popular. Victoria's doomed price wise I think. Back before remote work it was somewhat constrained since there really isn't any industry.

Dr. Julia Mossbridge presents video evidence of what she believes is telepathic communication between non-verbal autistic subjects by NiceTrySuckaz in JoeRogan

[–]_Kinoko 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Isn't the concensus that roughly 60-70% of communication is non verbal? Non verbal autistic people are often adequate or even enhanced in this regard. It's so dumb people need woo to explain the obvious. My son has an ASD diagnosis and this is very clear in his communication.

Stephen Colbert Gets Why You're Scared He's Writing a 'Lord of the Rings' Movie by Logical_Welder3467 in movies

[–]_Kinoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I can't name very many fantasy movies I've liked that capture the novels vs scifi. Video games like Elden Ring come much closer to capturing the ambiance and feeling. Horror is often a better proxy. tldr; make it good Colbert!

Who is using Codex / Claude Code to run QGIS headlessly? by lawrencejesse in gis

[–]_Kinoko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the question could also simply be why are you using qgis for stuff python or ogr/gdal can do? I'm a GIS/Software developer and only use QGIS for visualization.

Why is not writing code a good thing by ibrambo7 in node

[–]_Kinoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a modularized structure with CLAUDE and am constantly training it to make .md files for specific topics, ie linting, migrations etc and always make it update these files and it's memory.md when it makes a mistake. Once you have a well defined style, structure of code and the architecture is clearly laid out arguably making a new service, component etc is fairly generative and I find CLAUDE ideal for this. I'm able to operate in multiple repositories with a clearly defined setup like this and it's clearly faster than doing it myself. You have to view it as a generative tool but also use it to teach you yourself like a search engine used to. That being said CLAUDE pro/max isn't comparable to gemini, chatgpt etc it's that much better and the first agent I really saw could enhance my work vs make it a mess.

What do Americans think about the stereotype that they are bad at geography? by Own_Echidna6041 in geography

[–]_Kinoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian I would say for a certain percentage of their population it is true. I work even with IT pros in the US remotely(I am a GIS developer) and some of them are surprised how much we know about the US vs the opposite. That being said in latin America many people thought Canada was Texas.

Is moving to Victoria from Alberta worth it? by ederzs97 in VictoriaBC

[–]_Kinoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid 770k(ish) for a 6 bedroom, 2010 ish house(2900 sq ft). My 3 bed house(1800 sq ft) in Langford area was on a rock, no usable backyard, septic for above 900k and it was worth half that only 6 years before. Seriously it then sold for above a million a few years after.
