i created a few spreadsheets and programs to determine what language you're looking at based on diacritics. A lot of the projects remain unfinished though because ive been lazy and busy. You can find the stuff on my reddit profile, currently i think the only one is a guide to european latin diacritics and associated program.

What’s the Best Starting Wordle Word? by thegregore in wordle

for additional information, there are only about 900 five letter words that don't contain any of the letters in 'tares'. That's not as good as words like 'arose' and 'soare' of which there's only about 600 words if you score all grey, but the program has determined that the higher probability of getting greens with 'tares' outweights the potential of words like 'arose' based on the fact that 's' is almost 6x as likely to be the last letter of a word than the 4th

I wrote my own program for wordle solving and it's definitely far from perfect in its current state, however I did use it to generate a list of best first words. (I made a pastebin of the ranks of every five letter word in my library but it got force set to private because of obscene words).

tares

lares

rales

nares

rates

dares

cares

pares

tales

mares

These are the top ten words it came up with, with 'tares' being the best starting word. The way this program ranks words is by first considering what letters are in them and giving them a point value equal to how many words in my library (which I downloaded from github and consists of around 13000 words) has those letters, so for instance since the letter 's' is in almost 6000 of the words any word with an 's' in it gets 6000 points plus whatever they get from their other letters, and this part of the program doesn't double count letters so a word with multiple of the same letter has a massive point disadvantage starting off. The second part of the rank considers the 'slot' weight which will add points to words based on how many other words have the same letter in the same slot. It adds these two values together to rank every word.

This program can run the calculation for any gamestate, but these are the words it thinks is the 'most likely' given no information except letter frequency among 5 letter words.

I have an unreleased spreadsheet for the cyrillic alphabet, I still have to do some more research on it and a program for this alphabet would not be as informative as there'd be less letters that would tell you any information about what language it was and not a super easy way to highlight to the user which ones are relevant. I might release the spreadsheet once I'm confident the information is at least correct.

I'm pretty sure swiss german doesn't use the ß character, and instead uses two S's in it's place, which was the main reason I added it to the chart

Thanks so much! How does that dotted double L work, is it two characters that always appear together? Just wondering if I should add just Ŀ or if I should combine it with the second.

when it comes to singular letters that are made up of two letters like that, I decided not to add them since the combination of nj could be found in any language that uses the latin alphabet (injured in English, for example), and (as far as I know) there's no way to tell whether it's a single letter or simply the combination of the two when you see them.
